When I want to play a game, be it an MMO or any other, I just want to play it as soon as possible. So I get fed up with games that cause needless delay by loading several animated logos every time they start. I don't want to see them, and I'm the customer here. It may please some business exec that the game displays a flashy sign saying "Developed with XXX", but he isn't playing the game, and I am. ESO is a prime offender.

So let's just cut the crap and get the actual game up as soon as possible, OK?

Its all legal / licensing / money related, rather than any desire.

For example, if you use an off-the-shelf game engine, chances are you are required to display an animated logo for that engine every time the game launches. Same sort of thing if you've bought an IP off a third party etc.

So, not going to go away any time soon and its a small price to pay. Yeh, as a gamer I'd prefer they weren't there either, but they are so meh.

They should at least be skippable. I kinda find these logos interesting. No really, they are interesting they have a lot of effort put into them, its cool.

However, seeing them once should be enough. Back in the day only first boot required you to look through those logos. After that spamming the spacebar skipped all of them in  no time.

Wonder where devs forgot about that. Guess in new engines user input isn't initialized by that point.

Ah 2016, the year we have become so damn impatient, we can't sit through literally 20 seconds of menus without complaining.

When I started playing MMOs you had to spend a minute connecting your dial up modem to the internet before you could even launch the game.

It will just get worse, unfortunately.

I agree its the age of instant gratification, no patience at all, I get what I want or throw a tantrum age.  Unfortunately like Soki123 said I think it is only going to get worse as this new generation brings up kids that are even worse than them.

My speccy games used to take about 6 min to load up, no worries - just made a soda stream, sat back and waited.

some people need to relax a tad and enjoy the moment.

EQ used to have funny quotes that appeared at the bottom on the screen while you waited:

Stringing Bows.... Teaching snakes to kick.... Starching High Elf robes.... Preparing to spin you around rapidly.... Loading, you don't have to wait if you don't want to. Always Frisky Kerrans .... Refreshing Death Touch Ammunition.... Filling Haflings with pie.... Sharpening Claws.... Look out behind you.... DING!.... Dusting off Spellbooks.... Looking up Barbarian Kilts.... You have gotten better at Loading (8).... Whacking Trolls with the ugly stick.... Sharpening Swords.... Hitting your keyboard won't make this faster.... Told ya it wasn't made of Cheese.... Polishing Erudite Foreheads.... Attatching beards to Dwarfs....

    Hearthstone does this!

Yeah, it may seem curmudegeonly to complain about what is really a short delay compared to loading a C64 game from tape, but that was a necessary delay. This is a redundant delay. It would be less effort to design the game not to load them.

cameltosis nailed the main reason this happens, but in my haste to hit Agree and leave the thread I forgot to post a useful bit of advice:

In many games you can find these movies in a folder somewhere and delete them, and the game will simply skip past them without wasting time.

Once you get to know the game, you plan for it by doing other stuff while it loads.  Or get that mod that cancels all those screens out.

Get a good solid state drive and loading goes faster.

Most loading screens are there not because the developer thinks loading screens are awesome, but because it takes a while to load the game or the next zone or whatever, and they don't want to display a partially loaded game that looks horribly broken, nor a solid color screen that might make you think the game crashed or the computer locked up.

For some reason, this reminded me of something in old EQ:

Certain mobs/spells could "blind" the player, which would cause the entire screen to go black.  Everyone used to think their display/PC had crashed/frozen the first time it happened to them.  It was pretty hilarious.

That and movies I buy on disc. I mean come on I just paid $25 for a Blu-Ray or DVD don't make me sit through the freaking trailers and ads. Sometimes you can skip through them, but often the best you can do is fast forward.
This is the one that really bugs me.  I don't care even a little bit about the 10-20 seconds of splash logos at the start of a game, but those DVDs that don't allow you to skip all the garbage drive me insane.

Not only can't you skip to the menu with menu buttons, but on some DVDs, if you try to skip forward past the stuff, it actually resets back to the beginning of the annoying stuff.

Dang, bruh. Dont have a minute? Most games starting cutscenes videos and whatever are easily interupted by escape or space. Heck you can -novid in cs:go launch options and you will go straight in to the game, maybe you could do that to some of the other games aswell.

This isn't the issue he is referring to.  The issue he is referring to is the fact when you load up the game, it says something like Developed by Ubisoft and shows the Ubisoft logo, then starts up one with the Nvidia engine logo, then one with the obisidan logo. It's not the loading between zones, in fact it's not the loading at all.  It's the logos that appear for the companies involved when the game first starts up.

Me I just walk away and let them run or mash the skip button (if it's avail) so it's not a big deal to me, the logos are there because if they aren't they aren't giving credit to the people and could get in trouble.

Help me Bioware, you're my only hope.

Is ToR going to be good? Dude it's Bioware making a freaking star wars game, all signs point to awesome. -G4tv MMo report.

Yup, everyone is wildly enthusiastic about something that removes the cost of playing the game.

But once the cost is removed and replaced by ingame ads, everyone will be complaining about the placement, frequency and/or length of the ads... :D
