I never considered using these before but I also never saw MMORPG.COM shoving ads down my throat like this.

I open the site - a loud fanfare "welcomes" me.
It's about FF15 and the thing isn't just a simple ad but a whole show. So I turn off the sound - does that fix it? No!
A look at my firewall tells me that 97% of my bandwith is now being used by my browser because this stream just keeps going.

Is this some kind of April Fools Joke?

You guys keep telling us that you got less income now because people are using Ad Blockers but hell how can you blame us when you pull off shit like this?

    Can you describe this ad in detail or perhaps get a screen shot of it?  We have not directly sold anything for FF15 so this is coming through a network.

    Also - if you can provide the device you are on - desktop, tablet, phone, etc

    Our rules do not permit ads with auto-play audio so one of these networks is breaking this rule and we need to shut it down.

    I don't have screenshots since I shut down my browser being mad over this nonsense and luckily it hasn't come up since.
    From what I could tell it was this "Long Final Fantasy Night" thing they kept advertising for but I didn't thoroughly check of course.

    I was on my regular PC at the time.

    That's cool, and it can happen, but any comment about why the ads was also keeping on using 97% of his bandwidth ? I seriously doubt it's just the sound...

    Not blaming you guys, you don't always control what comes from the networks, but such ads that use massive amounts of bandwidth are just not tolerable on our user side.
    I have never seen such a thing.  I would need more information to narrow it down.  Like what ads are on the page while you see the bandwidth do this, etc.

    I should elaborate what I meant about 97% of my bandwith.
    My internet is very slow and my village will not get a glass fibre cable before the end of the year.

    So it was using the full capacity of my (slow) internet and the firewall showed me all traffic listed since I had started up the PC.
    And 97% of that traffic was the ad.

    Most ads are very small in size - unless they have a video streaming inside them, etc.  How were you able to determine it was the ad from your firewall?  Did it show it was your browser or somehow specifically the ad?

    No the firewall couldn't determine that but I clicked around inside MMORPG which made another ad come up and the stream stopped.

    We use about 4-5 different ad networks all with a variety of ads - if you see this again and can let us know what ads are running on the page at the time you have this bandwidth spike that can help us to narrow down the culprit.

    Back from work and back on my real PC and it's happening again.



    This time I had a closer look and it's a plugin for a 7 minute youtube clip that starts automatically.

    Interesting - so this ad automatically plays and with audio?  I will contact our networks to see if I can track down the source.  I probably won't be able to replicate your situation since I think this is targeted to your geo (Germany).
