Tried BDO at release. Just didn't stick with me, plus I was busy exploring the new stuff in SWTOR since I do love that game.... dont' hate me.
The things I didn't like about BDO was the UI, and that stupid little black spirit thing. It was so annoying. The graphics pop in was really annoying too.
Anyways, I'm thinking of giving it another, honest go instead of an hour. If I'm being truthful, I kind of approached the game initially thinking it would fail before I even logged in.
So which class is good for a player that likes to solo and explore? The warrior felt clunky to me, but that might be because I just wasn't feeling the UI at that time.
Thanks for the help.

You'll have to find the class that feels right to you. I know some people went in with the wrong class at first, and then tried again with one that suited their playing style better.
If you generally like melee characters and Warrior doesn't click with you, give Valkyrie, Berserker or Sorceress a try. (The latter is mostly melee, but has some ranged attacks too. If you choose to invest in them anyway)
My SWTOR referral link for those wanting to give the game a try. (Newbies get a welcome package while returning players get a few account upgrades to help with their preferred status.)

Links for the classes are included that explain the skills and the playstyle needed for that class.

Honestly mate, just play it for a whole day at least 5-6 hours before judging it, at first sight it looks exactly like any other Asian MMO.
Explore all tha things it has to offer, not just the Combat Leveling.
The safe Class is the Ranger or the Sorceress, both do well in PvP and PvE.
I am a Warrior it is the hardest Class to master but I love it, but Rangers and Sorceress play different so you might like it.
Ask around for advice ingame, watch some of the youtube guide videos in the background while you play. Dont get intimidated by the depth of the game, I try to just understand the fun things first and come back and do the crafting and worker stuff later when I have more time and mental resources to dedicate to it.

Here's a guide for getting started on Fishing, if you're interested in it.

Lastly here's an imgur of all the classes most viable gear upgrade paths.

Hope those help.
I have to agree.
OP - on first impressions it plays like a typical Asian MMO but once you get to the first major town (Velia) the game opens up and you get your hands on all the other activities. When you get to Velia the Black Spirit (through the guide menu) with lead you to NPC which explain all the other systems, for example crafting, fishing and trading etc. Another easy way to access the NPC's is through the quest menu (key O) and make sure all the All option is checked.
I've got so side tracked by the options within the game that combat and levelling are on a low priority.
Anyways, thanks again for all the advice. Excited to get it going.
