I have been PC gaming since 1991, and have played MMORPGs since 1999, and thru the years I have made friends both in RL and in game that have existed now for 6-25 years.
Obviously, the RL friends last longer, but some in game friends have become RL friends too.
The pinnacle of all this, was back in 2000 when every single one of my RL friends, including a few co-workers and supervisors, were all playing Everquest.
Yeah, we all got burnt out on EQ by 2003, but still...it was a great 4 years, and back then it was all the rage.
However, there was one period of time where I belonged to a guild comprised of non RL friends.
It was called "The Wanderer's" and their motto was "Wandering the Worlds of the Web".
Nothing states the feeling of elation and fun as that guild motto does.
When you think about that...all of us PC Gamers here are exactly that and more:
"Cyber Sailors on the sea of Cyberspace, and "Wandering the Many Worlds of the games we play".
