I don't know. Seems to me like the OP didn't actually play the game. I went from 29 -> 34/35 just fishing/trading and gained another level leveling horses...
I'm probably get in trouble, but it's gotta be said. Opinions are like assholes.. Every has one.
We should have a single thread with 'state your opinion on X game' Why people feel this urge to tell everyone they don't like something without a nice reasoned explanation is just whining. Don't play the game and move on or post in the new 'state your opinion thread.'
I think in the end the OP wanted a themepark MMO with direction; this game is not one of those kinds of games really. Honestly I play GW2 for that.
I think the OP looked at the wrong "hype" and is trying to blame things written by those he misread.
IDK... I used the same Google he had access to and I had a pretty damn good idea what the game was all about before I even tried it with the free CB2 key from here.
Although I have to admit, I surprised myself by how much I'm actually enjoying some of the things like fishing and cooking I've turned my nose up at in other MMORPGs in the past.
I'm not a hard core grinder so I pace myself with at most, an hour or two at a time. Then I go tame horses, level horses, cook food or beer, fish, trade... and then I'm ready to get back to grinding for XP and loot.
It's also hockey play-off season, eh? I love the ability to AFK fish while the hockey game is on and then active fish during commercials and intermissions.

Same. Even when I'm afk fishing it's fun. It's like another class itself lol. Between cooking, fishing and farming I was able to gear up with Grunil in a few days of casual playing. Then with all the keys I've been fishing up I have been getting black armor stones out of chests so i've been working on armor upgrades .
The game was clearly designed for pvp, in pve you just grind mobs to level up for pvp, people are full of crap trying to promote this game, im sure its good for pve but I was expecting a real pve mmorpg from the hype.
People are full of crap because they like something you don't? Got it. Obviously nobody else could like the PVE if you don't. /sarc
And where do you see me say anything remotely like that in this post? Stop being oversenstative I didnt say others cannot enjoy it but it doesnt mean it wasnt overhyped.
Didn't you say this? "people are full of crap trying to promote this game"
Sounds "remotely like" what I said doesn't it? yeah, thought so.
I just don't understand the OP, I read a lot of the stuff pre-launch and came to the conclusion there would be some degree of ganking and griefing.
I knew that I would experience that, get mad and quit, so I stayed away. Now when I read how happy people are playing the game I can feel pleased for them. On the other hand I scratch my head at people who had the same information that started playing the game and get upset that it is pretty much as advertised.

how much more easy mode can you you get tho? in BDO you press 1 button to auto run to turn in quests...also just group mob killing and 1-3 shot 20 mobs at a time...BDO is very much a "theampark" type mmo..also ALOT of ppl i know n friends say this isnt much of a mmorpg anyways ..all you do is fish n pvp and pvp is mostly do-able only if you break thru the paywall..sure you can do it but the rich wins ..and we get it your a GW2 fan! lol sure you could be a carebear in this game..but why..its a pvp focused action combat game...i think alot of ppl want BDO to be something its totally not...imo this title will be thrown to the side just like every other EYE candy korean mmo grinder with cash shop
It's interesting to see the level creep in MMO's. Back in the early days of DAOC, a white-con enemy was your level and somewhat tough. A yellow was higher and a tough fight. Orange was very hard and red was forget it.
In BDO, I had to round up multiple purples to even have any challenge at all.
The crafting system is interesting, except there is no player-driven economy and no way to trade with your friends and guildies.
The game have lots of quests, sometimes requiring more than one visit to a town. Some unlock after doing as 1st set of quests, other by talking to NPCs, others by invest points to unlock them, others by optional activities like gathering, crafting, etc. But as other mechanics in the game is not recommended by doing it only that way. You have to mix them with some grinding for max points.
So ............ just like Wow or a dozen other games ...got it
But if you have take the time to actually look at the game, you should already know that. But please stop asking for it to become a WoW clone. There are too many clones already.

If by real pve you mean grinding dungeons and raids 1000 times a day, every day, then thats even worse.
1 player vs the environment (mobs) -- at lvl 53 farming Violents (essentially BAMs or elites in other mmo games), I must dodge, time abilities, and position my character accordingly. Standard stuff in action combat-type games. Not groundbreaking, but you can't fall alseep on a rotation either...you'll def take it on the chin, and in short order.
Group PvE -- Some (guild or group) boss abilities are interesting, but it's mostly a zergfest that can grow old quickly. A few minutes in, and you might find yourself using 2 or fewer buttons. Then again, I don't find too many mmo's have much challenge or strategy in PvE anymore anyway. This wasn't exactly shocking, especially not in a pvp game utilizing pve as means to an end.
TLDR: Not the best, not the worst. You can find challenging fights if you want to, just don't expect ESO level of solo challenge.

Because they are full of it but its not because its something they like and I dont like its because they are either overhyping it.

The only afk activity i think is ok in any MMO is setting up a bazaar/shop.
OP admitted to not playing the game for any length of time. He may like the game now for all we know.
I love the afk stuff as a single dad. Just another option to build my character as I'm afk randomly.
