Blizzard has announced that World of Warcraft: Legion will officially launch on August 30, 2016.

It was nebulously stated until the press release came out. While editing the title calling it "release", I believe that Aug 30 will be the pre-launch event that is technically the expac release though we won't head to the Broken Isles for a couple weeks similar to how Warlords played out -- 2 weeks "pre-launch" (in this case Legion attacking all over Azeroth) and then the fight goes to the actual new content on the BI.

Oh well, pre event or main expansion doesn't matter much. I need to raise 3 more classes to 100 which means that i have my work cut out for me.

It's actually late. They said at Blizzcon 2015 that it would release "Summer 2016". And although August 30th is technically summer, it's basically the end of what most people consider to be the summer season.

Thanks, @Shodanas -- I thought so too. Devs have talked about portals opening all over Azeroth and that it becomes apparent a Legion invasion is coming. I figure it'll take 2-3 weeks for us to figure out it's coming from the Broken Isles before we head that way. In those weeks, players get a chance to gear up and sets the stage for the rest of the expansion.

Given that the Autumnal Equinox is not until September 22nd, they're releasing Legion more than 3 weeks ahead of summer's end. Check your calendar.

Wouldn't it be cool if no one knew anything about any expansion and this sort of thing just started happening in the game world.

The WoW movie comes out 6/10, Legion comes out 8/30. I think they really missed a hype window of opportunity there.

So there was a thirteen month content drought between MoP and WoD.

Blizzard knew it was bad, and stated they wanted to space out content in the future to avoid this from happening again.

Time between the last WoD content update and Legion, fourteen months.

Wrong direction guys, wrong direction

A good job that all those recently discussed faetures and changes many people seem to dislike are still in alpha - lots of time to rework stuff <cough>.

14 months i'd say. 6.2 with Tanaan jungle and Hellfire Citadel released on June 24 2015.

I prepurchased that shit,becouse i was expecting it around June(when the movie will come out).Cant wait this expansion to dissapoint me to,so i can stop playng mmorpgs (at least till they learn how to make games all over again) ;( .Its sad man,its just sad !

 Soon™... Sorry Blizz not soon enough, especially since I find it hard to believe it won't be 18 months of Legion into the next xpac with two patches in between. How many times did they say they wanted to move to yearly xpac releases after MOP? Seems like they just can't hit the goal.

The same old crap they pulled with MoP -> WoD. It was almost a 2 year wait. Now Legion is coming out 1 year after WoD's 6.2 patch.

Legion is going to disappoint so many people, but it will be better than WoD. I don't see how any expansion can be worse than that one.

So unfair! They said they wanted 1 content patch between expansions as well, they managed that.
