I must say I disagree. I've seen people criticize DS3 for being too similar to other Souls elsewhere and to me, it just doesn't feel like it. It uses the same formula, but I think it improves on the formula in several important ways. Weapon skills, focus points, dramatically increased speed and some important changes to PvP manage to keep it fresh. For example, it takes the good ideas behind DS2's PvP (blue summons, more prominent area-based covenants) and eliminates its weaknesses (limited red orbs, awful red rewards, soul memory). I get why it might look like the same game to someone who hasn't played much Souls, but I think the changes should be obvious to old fans. It's also the first Dark Souls with modern visuals. That helps.

In some ways, it's a perfect sequel. It's instantly recognizable, yet different enough not to feel like you're playing through the same game again.

I always wondered if I died a lot in this game I might be able to try one of the Dark Souls but doubt dying will teach me much. I envy you guys who can play this.

Well if it makes you feel any better hive, they are taking a break from newer dark souls since they also believe it needs changes to freshen it up.

I personally still haven't tried the second (Let alone the third), but I'll still get it when I find some decent discount.

u should start with dark souls 3, feels a lot more newbie friendly.
if u buy game from steam, u can refund it if u played less then 2 hour.

if u cant beat game first boss in 2 hour, refund:)

At least it looks like it has good graphics... Can we ask for more in a game?

I love Ds3, to me it is easily the best in the series. I appreciate your opinion though I do not share it.

Finished NG yesterday. Loved it. Not sure I can place it above Demons and Dark Souls 1, but it's right up there and I know I'll be sinking more time into it. There are some really awesome fights in this game and Nameless King is in my top 3 along with Artorias and Sir Alonne.

thats all DS needed, better graphics. The gameplay has always been there since Demon Souls.

I'm surprised you didn't throw Lords of The Fallen in the list for comparisons. I personally liked that title more than Dark Souls 2 & 3 (never tried demon souls).

Lords of the Fallen was excellent.

What i dislike about the DS series is that the PC ports are poorly made. I bought DS1 and spent the first hour trying to get it to function. Had to finally search for mods and input files to get it to at least work. Even then, having console controller labels on action items was very annoying. I skipped DS2 when similar reviews surfaced when it was released. At this point this is what is holding me back from buying DS3 and giving it a shot.

I would love a DS game with sane keyboard/mouse controls. Controls like most PC MMOs.

I've used a keyboard to play but couldn't get it right. Now I'm playing with a xbone controller and it's much better. But I'm still dying alot because I was hitting the wrong buttons...

The combat isn't actually that hard once you get used to it. A good way to bosses or hard mobs is:

    - Dodge their attacks
    - Wait for them to pause in between attacks
    - Hit them once (maybe twice, but don't push it more than that)
    - Back to dodging

That's pretty much the whole game. They will try to trick you with varied attacks and especially surprise monsters, but you actually do learn how to play as you go and get better.

And everyone dies in Dark Souls games. A lot. It's part of the fun.
