Very nice. I wonder if it will hit the market or just get bought out and shelved. Notice you can't buy AA rechargeable lithium batteries from energizer because they know it will end up making people not buy the alkaline.

Bought and shelved with the 10 year incandescent light bulbs and lifetime car batteries.

What do we use that goes five thousand cycles before it becomes obsolete? Even if your electric car battery cycles daily that's still nearly 14 years of use.

ha! They will find another way to make money from you. . or that process will cost a fortune and those batteries will only be in very expensive products etc. I do totally get your point though. No one wants to put themselves out of business.
I wish scientific discoveries that enhance the quality of life of people were forcefully put at the disposal of the public by some international law - making sure that the ones who came up with the idea will be generously rewarded for it.
As it is, the arab oil lords, Microsoft and every other powerful organisation that smells having a portion of their business taken out by some scientific discovery will simply keep buying out technological advancements or ideas and denying the world from living better lives.
My opinion is my own. I respect all other opinions and views equally, but keep in mind that my opinion will always be the best for me. That's why it's my opinion.
End of last month I bought an 8kw led fiber laser which can cut through 1 1/2" stainless steel. It will cut 0.075" steel at 1429 inches per minute. Machine gets delivered Thursday next week and takes just over a week to set up.
This is one technology needed to propel electric vehicles further. The Battery is always where the electric car loses. I imagine Tesla will try and work on this since they are heavily invested in batteries.

This doesn't solve the most important issue electric vehicles have blocking them from becoming mainstream, though. While increasing the number of cycles the batteries can go through sounds great, a typical electric vehicle only needs new batteries every ten years or so. The real issue that needs to be solved for EVs to replace gasoline is that the charging speed needs to be comparable to a 15-minute fill-up. Tesla's super-charging stations push the limits of science and technology, and have to use liquid cooling just to keep the charging cables from catching on fire. We may never see a solution that allows us to charge EVs in 15 minutes then drive 300+ miles.
Nothing like this ever gets made. The patent gets bought by a company and never allows it to be made. Would destroy the battery industry. There are long lines of products like this one that never saw the light of day because of greed. The best one I can think of is the carburetor that was able to run over 100 miles per gallon of gas back in the 80's. Just imagine being able to go 2000 miles on one tank of gas back then. Patent was bought and never allowed to be made. They really need to change the patent laws to state something like you have 5 years to make this for sale or you lose the patent. Could you imagine the chaos that would happen then.
The best use of patents is how it was originally derived. A) The patent must be beneficial to the pursuit of new science, technology, or medical breakthroughs. The patent must be signed by the secretary of state. C) The patent has a lifespan no more than 17 years. Before patents, companies kept everything a secret. In order for them to release information on something like splitting atoms for fission so other technologies can be built off it, the patent system was created. This way the inventor could profit from the discover for a time and release the information public ally. Now its used to stifle competition. The good news is patents still have expirations. That car that got 100 mpg. Its patent has already expired and you can freely use the discovery without legal consequence. For patents, there are only 2 extensions which don't apply in this case. First is in delays of patent issuance, and second is delays in FDA approval. Considering we don't have 100 MPG cars, you can chalk that one up as an urban myth or wrong unit of measurement like liters.
just a question ,what happens if the inventor doesnt want to sell the patent to a greedy company and sell the product so the world can enjoy it?
because ppl are blaming greedy companies but the inventors accept selling the patent in the 1 place...
i gues lots of millions of $ is something no1 cant say no ....but still....
Most of the time if you actually work for someone or a company they own the patent, even if it is done on your own time at home it still belongs to them. Happens all the time, usually in the small print in the forms you fill out for work. One of the biggest patent things where the inventor lost millions if not billions was the SAM splint. It is just a piece of bendable metal encased in foam that you wrap around a suspected bone break. The inventor was enlisted in the military at the time of his idea so the military owned the patent for the splint.
i see....so the humanity is so stupid that we slow the our own future....because of greed...if it doesnt generate $ , is keep it secret or not released.....
makes u wonder if itrs true that there are medicines that can cure some sickness but were not released because is better keep ppl paying for years than curing it...

The car one wasn't a myth and the patent was extended. But also name me a car company that isn't in bed with the oil companies other than electric ones. When was the last time you saw a new car with a carburetor for instance? The gas companies add alcohol to the gas which makes it burn hotter and faster which actually destroys carburetors, why modern gas it bad for 2 stroke motors, like weed eaters, chain saws, etc. You need to find what is know as white gas which doesn't contain ethanol in it or the carburetors get gummed up over time. And few gas stations actually carry the un-ethanoled gas.
It's one thing to be able to make a product. It's quite another to be able to make it cheaply.
True but it will happen eventually. And wouldn't it be nice to have an Iphone that actually isn't in constant need to be plug in after a year?
Batteries that get useless fast is bad for the enviroment and the need to use more and more rare earth metal to replace them is a huge problem. It certainly will be a while before these batteries are something everyone can get for their phones and other mobile devices but it is worth the wait.
yeah this is exciting stuff to me given my 'home' can off grid. lithium batteries for RVs is a slow moving technology at the moment. Just not enough people doing it to justify mass production

Around every ten years or so comes a breakthrough in technology that changes the game. You either get on board or die a slow death.

Tesla has batteries for Home applications. I don't thing it will be too long before they have an RV application.
