The reddit thread is now going to be a meme for what not to say as a dev/producer and as an example of what getting "rekt" is in............

Yup, the Internet is a very sharp double-edged sword.

All the good things you say will be read instantly by millions...

And all the mistakes you make will be instantly read by billions...

well for the record Facebooks earning reports today does include Oculus sales however the numbers at that level are not digested yet but we do have this:

    Two things -

one) Facebook stock is already projected 10 dollars more a share after the close today at 4pm.  So it will be interesting to see what tomorrow morning brings.

two) The big issue is not how many have shipped.  A crap ton have shipped.  The big issue is how many were sent to people that actually pre-ordered the damn thing. I think what's becoming apparent to those that have pre-ordered is that Oculus/Facebook is sending product out to the retail stores and bundles first and getting around to everyone else second.

So it might very well be that you will have a better chance getting an Oculus at Best Buy than having been one of the first pre-ordering from their own damn site day of.

    yes exactly.

and I havent looked at my credit card yet so I dont know if I was charged at the point of pre-order or the point of delivery which hasnt happened yet and I order about 3 weeks after day 1.

I am assuming my purchase (a VR fanatic) isnt going to be part of the quarterly statement

    Come on Sean

Is Oculus in trouble? not with Facebook behind it. With a 2 billion dollar investment, I don't believe they would drop it too easily.

A more interesting proposition would be:

If Zuckerberg didn't buy the rift for 2 billion, would Oculus be in trouble?

So VR is already considered a success?

Well, assuming they arranged delivery contracts with the major retail outlets, there would be pressure to deliver them perhaps even before the preorders.

I think more than a few billions of dollars have to change hands before anyone could claim any kind of success.

Definitely a success for Palmer Luckey.

    Right on

I've tried a DK1 and a DK2. Love them with driving and flying but the resolution has to improve before I'll really be able to enjoy them.

Maybe the retail version is already there?

I too will be enjoying VR when it comes down to a non early adoptard price, isn't the size of a smart car strapped to my face and can be quickly removed from my eyes when my wife/kids/dog come in the room and want to talk to me.

I would prefer something the size and weight of a pair of large wrap-around eyeglasses that have a button near the temple which changes the glass from opaque VR lenses to transparent "glass".

Not only that, but if I wait until Gen 3-4 of the equipment, like I did smartphones, then I can be sure I'm not dumping money into dying tech like say... google glass.

Isn't Sean one of the top promoters of VR around here? BTW flat screen or not (hey that used to be a luxury just a few years ago) people can still have fun playing in a virtual world, you're no more there whether it's strapped to your head or not. :P

What kind of trouble exactly, you ended that with a question mark so I guess you have no idea yourself and just thought it would make for a dramatic title to your post.
