Just require social security numbers (in NA) for registering a game account... sort of like the KR ID number.
I don't know what the EU standard would be...
The reason people hack is because they know they can get away with it, and never suffer any issues. Banning people based on their identifier would deter some, but not all
Unfortunately, the more challenging a game is, the more of a market there is for bypassing those challenges.
I dunno, people seems to cheat in any game no matter of difficulty. People try to cheat in all MMOs and the more popular the more try to cheat.
If there is something that attract more cheaters though it is PvP.
Pantheon will have to deal with it just like any other MMO company.
I just hope they have a zero tolerance. You're caught once and your account is banned (none of this suspension crap) and then their credit card number is banned or if they used Paypal its address is banned.

I live in Australia and I have no idea what you would use to do this in Australia. The obvious things like Tax File Number and Medicare number actually have specific legislation preventing them from being used in this way

Actually I believe it would be illegal to use social security numbers in the US as well (don't hold me to this, though - I am no lawyer )
While I personally believe anonymity in this digital age is becoming more and more of a farce, using something like a social security number to verify player identity is crossing over into a place a free nation should not tread. As soon as you start to tie something like that to the registration of a video game, you are basically forfeiting your right for any expectation of privacy.
