Why should I get immersed in their PVE storyline when I was not finished with Morrowind, Oblivion, Skyrim (which had better solo PVE play)??

Group PVE seemed to be hard to do because it was mostly following a storyline.. I would rather just grind mobs over and over again if it meant interacting with a group of people and not NPCs but it seemed like I couldn't do that.

I was unable to get much of a taste of PVP.. I have tried several times to venture out in the open world but every time I find myself not finding it fast enough and more importantly not strong enough yet to possible even get a good fight. My first time venturing out I snuck up on someone and killed him but I didn't get anything for it.. in other words.. it felt like there was no real interaction and this comes back to my main problem with the PVE.. not enough interaction.

Why should I spend most of my time interacting with NPCs and the environment in an MMORPG... just to chat with people sometimes??

Where is the dangling carrot for someone who wants to interact with people?

I tried joining a guild or whatever but they were wayyy ahead of me and only one or two of them would be on vent/teamspeak.. not many players in the game seemed to even use vent/teamspeak... as they were always doing their own thing for the most part..

I tried helping newer players than me so that I could group up with someone.. but whenever they would catch up with me, they would either quickly pass me or be holding me back too much.. isn't there anything worth doing as a group in PVE??

So why should I play this game when most of it is interacting with NPCs by myself? Is it worth it in the end?

The issues you're talking about are fixed by getting to endgame. But you've got to get there first. I enjoyed mostly soloing the questing.. you obviously don't like that kind of thing so all I can suggest is getting through it and getting to the part of the game you want.
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

How many hours do you think that would take? Isn't there any low level PVP worth while?

The guys in my guild had more than a year of gameplay, every one of them... do I have to play a year to catch up with them?

Is there ever group PVE that is similar to other MMORPGs? Not part of the "storyline"? Like mob boss, exploration, etc. goal instead?

I just reformatted my HD.. so I'd have to download it, etc.

I am wondering if I should just leave it alone and finish Morrowind or something..

While I played the game there was no real dangling carrot to get me excited to keep going..

Word of mouth can be a dangling carrot so that's why I am here.

When someone has to convince you to play a game, then the game probably isn't worth playing.

I'm not an IT Specialist, Game Developer, or Clairvoyant in real life, but like others on here, I play one on the internet.

That's not true.. people tried to convince me to play MMORPGs for years before I finally gave it a chance..

Thinking back, I wish that I had listened to them as I had missed out on some epic games.

My point is, you already tried the game and it appears to me from what you wrote you didn't care for it?  Why should you need convincing otherwise?  Nobody knows better than you what you want and like in a game.

The game for me was great from 1 - 50, but failed miserably after that.  PVP has been a cluster **** from day one so there was nothing to keep me in the game, hence I left.  Now, I admit I haven't played since just before they announced it was going B2P and that would have made me quit even if I had been playing still, but that is for a different topic.

I give games one shot and if it doesn't catch me the first time, I don't go back, but that is just me.  That also is the reason I'm not playing any mmo's right now and haven't in many months.

    thanks

this is very helpful info to me.. but what was wrong with the pvp and can you compare it to any other games?

Ive tried finding this info out but all I see are complaints of lag, etc. things I don't really care about.. I can handle losing unfairly.

I am so curious about the endgame.. I would just keep going to NPCs and level up but I havent even read anything and follow the storyline so I fear that I am completely wasting my time because so far is seems that this is the games best selling attribute.. but if the PVP is fun than it could be worth it.

May I ask you something? What was the funnest PVP experience you had?

As far as the PvE goes if you are thinking of trying it again I would suggest waiting for the next patch - the Dark Brotherhood DLC patch.

One of the base changes that is happening is that the "VR" system should (finally) be removed. What this means essentially is that you can PvE level 1-50 say on one character, and then create a different character for one of the other factions. And because "champion points" earned by one character can be applied to one of your other characters this means you no longer have to "ghostwalk" your main through the other factions in order to get to "max" out your main.

Now as far as PvP goes you don't need to max out your character ..... but obviously of you are very low level you are going to have a hard time. You can enter the campaigns though if you wish.

The other big change since the game launched - as far as PvP goes - is the launch of the Imperial City (paid) DLC.

Imperial City is not a campaign it is an ingame PvP region. You can read up on it if you are not familiar but nominally it is a DAoC style Darkness Falls. Nominally because the way they finally implemented it - seemingly following comments from people who wanted it to be "safer" made it more dangerous than DF to do PvE; essentially it is a somewaht contested area at all times. If you have never tried it this may interest you. Caveat: how good the PvP is is heavily influenced, as always, by who else is doing PvP.

If I can level up PVE doing Dark Brotherhood quests that is totally badass!! How long do you think it takes to catch up to someone in PVP though? Thats my main question I guess.

Depends on your skill, you can go to the no champion point campaign and you will be on equal grounds except for how good you are.

There is a lowbee PVP campaign restricted for those level 49 or lower. Many people start PVPing there at level 15 or even lower at 10, but obviously those closer to level 49 have an advantage because they have unlocked more and better skills including the skills from the two PVP lines you can only unlock by PVPing. A lot of people level just by PVPIng there BTW. It may be slower than PVE grinding but at least you're doing something you enjoy and you're unlocking the PVP skills that can only be unlocked there.

In the main campaign the same principle applies: the longer you do it, the more champion points you have to buff yourself with, the better gear sets with better bonuses you'll have and the more abilities you'll have to use including the top end PVP abilities. For some of that you can take short-cuts by buying what you don't have but for most you just need to put-in the time.

If you're smart you'll get in a good PVP guild and run in small or large groups while you're on the weaker end of the player curve but if by "catch up" you mean when will you be able to take on a group of 10 all by yourself and survive and upload it to YT, that will take you a good long while... plus you have to really know what you're doing to pull it off,

Almost everyone playing there is on TS, BTW. IDK where you got the idea it isn't used unless you mean people just using it all the time even when not PVPing to just shoot the shit.

If you did play it for a while and tired, maybe you should try something else instead? Not all games will work for all players and there is plenty of other games out there that might be more to your liking.

Interacting with other players is sadly down in most MMOs today, a lot of people just don't bother and play as they were playing a single player game instead. Whatever you do, get back into ESO or not I recommend you join a good guild. That gives you a more social aspect to the game.

Think about what type of gameplay you do enjoy, then consider if ESO have it. If not, look for something that have it. Some games have massive co-operation, some have instances closer to singleplayer games. Some have huge dungeons, others short and casual or no at all... And so on.

That's generally true but most people posting here don't seem to realize that ESO is really two very different games. Those who complain about the lack of social aspects are just letting me know with their posts that they haven't spent much time in Cyrodiil.

The PVE part IS very much solo-centric and is not as fleshed out for group play as some other MMOS that focus just on that.

But the PVP campaigns are a whole different game that is the exact opposite; it's all about grouping and interacting using voice chat and fighting with and against the same people you'll get to know very well.

The PvE is very solo-centric, which I love, but it's also very social. It's social in a different way than PvP or instanced dungeons.

I love how I can go into a public dungeon be working my way through, meet up with someone, and work together to get through the rest of it. I'll meet a total stranger and not know how good they are. We're not on voice chat, we don't stop to do become bffs. We work together for as long as our paths are the same and then move on.

It's a really nice way to play with other people. I've found that most people in the game are nice helpful gamers that are fun to game with.

I still want to try PvP sometime and see how that works.
Honestly this only happens at very low levels when you don't have skills and don't know how to play your class, once you know how to play the class you chose then it becomes a whole different issue because of the lack of small group content to provide you with challenge and fun. After doing the same easy dungeons over and over hundreds of times i just stopped doing it altogether, things like veteran Imperial City Prison are just child's play for me by now and it has gotten to that point where seeing the face of the same bosses and the same interiors makes me wanna go and watch some netflix instead of doing the dungeon.

That probably depends on how good you are at PVP, it could be days months years or never, its really down to how good a player you are.
As in all things, have to remember, there will always be people that are better at PVP than you are, once you accept that and just play for fun, it probably becomes more enjoyable, and may actually improve your own skills in the process. B)

I love the feel of playing with people and in groups... especially in ESO.  The game is awesome when it comes to crafting, pvp, pve and questing.  But, here is why I like playing with groups:

    1) First, the pvp is awesome and groups are SO easy now.  At level 10 I go to Cryodiil (PvP land) and it is huge, with quests and daily pvp boards right at the entrance.  I play in the non-vet campaign called Blackwater (it is a blast!)  I grab the dailies (especially the Kill 20 of so n so class, which you can do like 5 times a day).  I then quickly join a BIG 24 person group. To do that you type in Auto Invite Words like byte or aotd or any of the other many groups.  The groups set up auto invite words and you type them in zone chat to jump into the group.  They advertise them in Zone in Cryodiil.  Some want you to have TeamSpeak and some don't... I do both and it is addicting and you can run with fun peepz for hours attacking castles, keeps, doing quests, defending keeps, sieging, ganking, killing the 20 person kill dailies, scouting, farming, taking resources, play your lute/flute/drums, etc... those huge pvp battles are intense!!

      a) sneaking around stealth with 2 or 3 groups of stealthed peepz to take a keep is ALMOST orgasmic!

    2) PvE... I use the random dungeon finder to do a daily and then just join groups that are doing dungeons in every zone... or just keep doing the random dungeon finder while I quest and craft.

    3) The crafting dailies are quick, fun and give great rewards... crafting means SO much in ESO because the crafted gear is the best or can be the best... and using the dye stations to customize it makes me look beautiful and different than everybody else!

    4) Trading Guilds - I trade my stuff I find and craft and make BILLIONS of $$$... just like Donald Trump!

    5) Raiding and PVP Guilds -  I join those too because I can join 5 guilds and we go have a blast raiding and pvp'n.

    6) The fact that I can get SO involved so early on... PVP at level 10 and PVE (dungeons) even earlier than that makes this game VERY immersive socially to me.

    7) No, I won't date you just so you will play ESO, but I will say Hi and then gank your non-AD toon!

    Have Fun!!

To me, it was the same stale, generic and trite game that it was when I played it a few years ago.  I do hope you find the outcome different than did though.  It sounds like you do want to play again since you are asking others to convince you.

    Have Fun!!

This post made me want to try playing it again . .. maybe I am missing out in some good times? I never really grouped with others for PVP before and would always try and do it solo so I think I should try what you suggested.. thanks!

I was also unaware that there was a random dungeon finder... is that new or something??

So far my ESO experience has just been blah blah blah NPCs NPCs NPCs run here go there click that and talk to more NPCs.. /yawn..

Pvp in a group is awesome in ESO and really the only way to do it and have fun unless you have OP gear. I always find a group on teamspeak in pvp- many groups actually insist you at least listen on TS; in fact the ease of finding groups is one of the things I most like about it.
