BDO what is the combat system about?

ArchlyteArchlyte Member RarePosts: 1,405
Watched a video or two but wanted to ask here what the system is built on? I am playing on a guest pass right now and having fun so far, but the combat in the new character areas is a bit strange and I wondered if some vets could enlighten me on a few things.

1) Do all mobs stand around and not aggro (essentially letting the player choose the size of the fight)?
2) Is there a grouping dynamic or is it like GW2 where you just DPS everything?
3) What would you need a group for besides PvP and hard world areas?

Thanks for any help with this

Ok I guess I posted in wrong spot and made the mistake of hoping for a quick sum up. Ty anyway.

    It is DPS everything.

No grouping mechanics is one of my negatives about the game.

    1) No mobs aggro at higher levels but you'll still likely be able to choose how many you pull fairly easily if you're paying attention.
    2) Wizard/Witch have some pretty substantial heals but the game is designed for everyone to self sustaining with pots.  Killing mobs is mostly about aoeing packs of relatively easy mobs, other players is where most of the danger comes from.
    3) Scroll bosses are best done with a group at endgame.  There is usually one very competitive zone at any given time.  If you want level there you'll likely need to PvP a fair amount and so a group is nice.  World bosses are a clusfterfuck, you don't need a group for them.

Hey great advice, thank you. I am prepared to do a lot of PvP but is that basically a situation where post 50s mow down everyone else (To include any level 45-50)? I need to know if I should just run lol

Yes, but most PvP is over grinding spots so you're far more likely to run into people around your own level than really high level characters.

Ah ok thanks again. I am determined to play the game for what it is, so it helps to know that. Is the time to kill in PvP really fast? Or are one on one fights capable of some duration?

Yes, particularly when you have two defensive oriented classes and both are loaded down with pots things can go very long.

Nice! So another video I watched compared the game to Fighting Games (Tekken, Street Fighter) where combat is concerned. I think this is a pretty interesting idea. Seems like it will be a game where you really have to muscle-memory the classes.

Not sure you want my opinion on BDO s combat, but here it goes. It sucks.

Agreed. Its hands down the worst action combat system ever. You got instant jumping, teleporting, flying back and forth, you got button spam, you got ability rotations and in PvE, you got really stupid mobs and all out monotony.

    Its just awful.

No I wanted input so either sort is fine. Do you guys who don't like it see the way it's supposed to work? I want the bird's eye view complete with warts.

I've been eyeing it myself. So far it seems to be like Eve Online combat, only without any tactics or rock/paper/scissor decisions; aim, fire, dodge (in Eve it'd be; target, activate offense module, activate defense module).

Also, it seems to lack any investment, given the death "penalty."
