How Does One Get Friends Into This?

Truvidien88Truvidien88 Member UncommonPosts: 462
Greetings!

As the title says I'm just wondering how you can friends into the game? My best friend hates the game and my girlfriend isn't against writing it off just yet. They're focused on WoW right now and nothing is wrong with that.. As I play it with them. We usually will all jump into a game together. Been trying to get them to give this game a chance for PC.  Was wondering if any tips I could try to get them to play it?

Thanks.

They're focused on WoW right now.

In my experience most people that are into wow very rarely switch to another game, Because they like wow and why substitute that for something else?

Make new friends in-game.  Play with them.

Why not just ask them to set aside a certain time where all of you can do the quests together?

It seems like it's either a "yes" or "no" answer.

The game is different than World of Warcraft so perhaps you can highlight "how" it is?

Tell your Girlfriend you made a new friend but it's a woman and is she OK with that? Watch how fast she starts playing ESO. When your GF starts playing to watch you; tell your other friend you met this hot chick and shes bored because she can't find anyone to play with.

I have had the same problem for long and with every new FOTM game that launched.
Always tried to get my friends into the games i was playing at a time.

Nowadays i don't have any friends anymore. Because i'm a grumpy, mean codger. But it's not that i care because today i mostly play singleplayer games. Problem solved.

I'll see if I can get them to join for the massive PvP battles. Always wanted to take place in a Cyrodil war if that is still the thing? I'm always the one to keep a eye out for new mmo's that come out and give them a chance. Just getting them to go with me is the hard part.

the PvP in ESO is still awesome.  If you are lower than level 50 make sure you go to the non-vet campaign 'Blackwater'.  Like I have said in other posts, Cryodiil (ESO pvp area) is a blast.  I just go there and get the daily quests from the boards and then look for the different groups advertising their auto-invite words in /zone chat.  I then type the word in /zone and the next thing you know I am in a large AD group hunting down DC and EP... taking their castles, keeps, resources and gathering skyshards.  Large Group pvp in Cryodiil is addicting and there are different type of groups.  Some groups require TeamSpeak, but many do not require it or just want you to listen to instructions from the group Crown on it.

If you are in AD and happen to jump into a group that I am in... well... you will get rid of your girlfriend anyway.

Have fun, kill DC and EP, and please repair the walls after you take their keeps!

Make sure one of those friends is a girl that has a sultry southern belle accent and likes to flirt.  That should get your girlfriend to at least pay attention to your gameplay long enough to maybe give it a try...

How is ESO's cash shop? Like can you obtain everything in it through playing.. Or some outfits/mounts simply require you by paying money for?
  • freakkyfreakky Member UncommonPosts: 113
You don't. You find people in game if there is any.
    Good lucks and have fun.

The latter, if you want the best bang for your buck in that manner, the sub is the way to go, more content, as well as free crowns to make such purchases.

If you want to get rid of your friends, just be direct with them. Don't drag them into ESO.  j/k.

I have a friend who tries to get everyone into whatever game he is playing.  If I had an interest in the game I would be playing it.

If they're not computer savvy you could go into their firewall and block WOW, they won't know why they can't connect, just say WOW is broken, come play ESO..

Honestly, if theyre still actively playing WoW, specially during this expansion, there is probably nothing anyone can do to convince them otherwise. I mean its on thee worst expansion the game has ever had and from what I hear the 'content drought' is worse than MoP ever had.

In fact, it doesnt add up. Id be suspicious (-_-) ....... how much did you say you played with them?  >:)

Id say buy them each a basic copy of the game so they can try it out and cross your fingers.

Disagree. You don't need to sub. And you don't need to get anything from the cash shop - with the exception of the DLCs if you decide you like the game but that is for later..

If you check the cash shop it actually has very few items in it - you can check yourself; basically some unique vanity stuff. There is an awful lot of gear that can be crafted however.

From a cost point of view - assuming your friends don't want to give up their WoW sub - the only financial outlay required is the box price. And you can pick that up for e.g. under $20 from Amazon.com or about £5 from Amazon.co.uk. So cost is not a reason not to try the game.

Now as to how to get them to try it?

Your best friend hates it - any idea why? As for your girlfriend - ask her to give it a try for you before the WoW expansion launches? And maybe point out that now is a good time since dailies etc. is getting to the ultra-meaningless stage and any new gear will be obsolete real soon.

Also maybe set boundaries and objectives: Suggest you approach it as a "single player co-op" game rather than an mmo. And you go in with the expectation of maybe leveling a character to 50 pr alternatively doing the main storyline. So a few weeks - less than a month. Something that can be done before the expansion.

And if they don't like it they don't and if they do there is the option to level another two characters in the other factions. Maybe one day a week. With no sub required it doesn't have to be WoW or TESO it can be WoW and TESO.

Other approach might be through other ES titles.

Just to clarify...I didn't say he needed to sub I said it gives the most bang for the buck (if he wants to use the crown store),  he asked specifically about whether items were cash-shop exclusive, which they are for the most part. Hence the suggestion. You certainly don't need any of that stuff, nor did I imply he did.

KK - sorry if I read it as you did. I was thinking that he / his friends who obviously subscribe to WoW might use the "you need to sub and it has a cash shop" as an excuse not to give it a try. And you absolutely don't of course.

And worth repeating that for them - and others perhaps who don't want to cut a cord to an existing game it doesn't have to be "WoW or TESO" it can be WoW and TESO.

P.S. Grouping / phasing issues were an occasional  launch issue (result of the game reflecting your achievements and if members of a group were on different stages then sometimes it went wrong. That was two years ago.
