any developer thinking that packing a game client will make it more secure is delusional every major packing tool like themida etc has been proven to be very easy to unpack....
should they have packed it? sure they shouldve. would it have prevented someone who created a emulator from unpacking it and going through the code? i very much doubt that....

Another nail in the coffin for these 2 projects and this is even before they have really taken off *pfft*

On a related note, why does anyone think there won't be cheaters this time around - leaked source code or not? The old DF had lots of cheats available so you could teleport, speed hack etc. This time around will probably be no different as the original devs were incompetent amateurs and now their shitty code with lots of security holes has been licensed out to those poor souls at Ub3rgames and BFG.

I have found in my lifetime, that the beauty of hating stupid people is, that it crosses all racial boundaries.

Looks like the "new" teams are on par with Aventurine where amateurism is concerned, or even worse in one case.

Aventurine at least never had this kind of security breach... :D

DF source code got out and someone realized they could do a bunch of hacks people were already using years ago in DF?  I fail to see the issue here.

The game has always been abused by it's players.   The developers might have had their hearts in the right place, but their minds were off in space when they coded it.

The game is just not worth resurrecting.  Any developer would go mad attempting to fix all the programming errors.  If anyone thinks that is going to happen, you are deluded, they might fix a few major ones, but there are just too many.
