I buy every kickstarter and buy the premium package of every early access.  Buy all the bells and whistles of every expansion.  OH Damnit I realized its all my fault.....
Are you onto something or just on something?

Anyways, I think regardless of how good or bad Star Citizen is if majority opens their wallets on it, at least we will send a message that we want more high budget AAA products coming to us. Keep in mind also Star Citizen is made exclusively for PC, which means it would be far more expensive to develop if it went multiplatform and chasing that console market that many of these AAA budget games do these days.
Maybe I didn't read enough of the posts.....Star Citizen? Thought we were talking MMOs in general...
No I'm starting to see that this particular poster always turns his threads into SWG/Star Citizen discussion...

Short of being a developer I don't see where any player has the agency to push the Genre forward.

Some players think they are major players in the industry.   Like the devs are watching what they do in games.  Some start too many posts on forums, like mmorpg.com, and believe devs are being influenced by their amazingly great theories and concepts. Yup, people have massive egos.

BTW, they watch where players spend money.
These days I'd agree and say that's pretty much all they watch or care about, maximizing revenues and profits.

They would sell crap if they thought people would buy it.

Wait, they sort of do already..... :p

Nah. Typically crap games (in this genre) aren't around for well over a decade.

How long then?  8 years? 5 years what is the magic cutoff date that makes a game no longer "crap"?

In your opinion, what have you done to push this genre forward and help it become something better, something more than what it's been in the past? Well, most know my story, which I'll add later on, but what about yours? :)

Crap games diminish in both player base and further development, while great games grow bigger and add more features/content.

Amount of MMO's we've seen accomplish the latter in the last couple of years = none. Funny thing is how many have the perceived view around here that MOBA's are the next coming. Sadly, their massive numbers are due to the fact they are available in every country for free with access to internet and some machine that can render 3rd graphics.

I'm just glad that finally after 5 years, 4 months, 2 weeks and 1 day of not spending $ on anything new that came as well as creating awareness in this market finally starting to pays off with more than just F2P products being shipped to us. Look at 2017, it's beautiful :)))

So, it's safe to say on average it takes 6 years for the consumer to say NO NO and NO and the producer will finally listen.

Your first statement is a perfect description of SWG.

No actually the facts are rather clear.  Mmorpgs have never been better over a six year period then they have been while you have gone.  So it's safe to say you are NOT the consumer developer want they have plenty of other consumers.  No the developers have not been missing your $15/month and could care less what you have been saying...sorry just wanted to welcome you to the real world and provide actual facts.

Well since EVE is still around and going strong, I'll have to agree MMORPG's have never been better, but if you are playing anything else (MMORPG) released in the last 6 years, you are probably playing bad games.

I don't support games that use the FtP with in game purchases model.  I have never spent a single penny on a free to play game and I have played many subscription based monthly fee games.

That of course includes some that have changed from subscription to ftp while I was playing them.  I don't last long after games switch over.

So I guess like others have said, I vote with my dollars.

I think I have a few instances... but my favorite by far is:

Joining the big announcement stream for Greedmonger and getting the developers to admit it was a piece of crap and shut it down that night.

I strongly believe that may be one of the single greatest contributions anyone has ever made. Not just in gaming but life in general.

Finally. I've been waiting for somebody that knows what they are talking about, to pop in.

Can you list all the western AAA MMORPGs with more than 250K active subs as of today?

    Not for much longer, laddie.

I had a few of my ideas and feedback used in UO during beta and have gotten heavily involved in a few communities shortly after that.  I don't think I helped it evolve but I do feel like I was at least part of it.  I think it was the DDO beta where I realized that there were just too many testers etc for devs to listen to them all.  I always sent at a bi- weekly (detailed but very to the point) report / suggestions during the UO beta that was actually read and responded to.

Other than developing or voting with my wallet there is not much I do anymore that would change the flow of anything these days.
