Wanne give my old pc to my son,he is 14 and COD fan :pleased: Its an i5 2500 whit gtx 770 windforce. Now i want to change the gpu to gtx 970 is this overkill for this cpu or not. Or leave the pc as it is now ?
It wouldn't think so. I bought a 2500k when they launched and only just replaced it with an i7 6700K. I had the same R9 290X in both machines with no CPU bottlenecking. Of course, mine was overclocked, but those Sandy Bridge chips overclock amazingly well on air, so if yours is the K variant, even a mild overclock is an option for you as well. That should more than cover any bottleneck concerns. That 970 sounds like a perfect match for that system.
No problem at all. CPU bottlenecking usually comes up when someone takes an old low budget machine and stick a state of the art GFX card in it.
Even an I5 will run a 970 fine, you will get good performance in GPU heavy game but not so great at CPU heavy. Fortunatly are more and more games GPU heavy nowadays.
I'd leave it alone until you decide that the GTX 770 isn't good enough anymore. Don't upgrade just because something faster comes along. Upgrade because what you have isn't good enough for some particular purpose, e.g., doesn't run this particular game that you're playing very well.
