    @blueturtle13

I dunno where you've been then in the last 2+ years, but clearly you weren't on this site, cuz from a large poll of player base response here in this forum and community, 44% were decided to buy WOW:WoD on launch week prior release and 15-16% were undecided. So, I have to disagree with this site being one of the worst places to make polls like these.

I've been registered at MMORPG.com since 2003, changed nick name at 2009. This site already had over 3.2 mil registered accounts 5+ years ago.

@blueturtle13 I also find it lacking to hear arguments like "this site is one of the worst" for unbiased polls when you then mention sites like mmo-champion or wowhead, which are totally WOW biased and focused about WOW discussion.

Again, the fact 44% responded here to buy WOW:WoD on launch week before release as well as the fact that 15-16% were undecided, further proves that you are wrong, imo of course. So, at least my disagreement has some valid arguments behind.

If anything one thing that's very interesting is how Blizzard is paying dearly for what they did with WOW and its player base. As we can see they not only lost huge amount of $ due to failing to keep their subs through WOD, but they also lost half of those players permanently apparently for Legion.

I also most likely will be skipping Bless just because of the fact many players like you can already be part of it on the Korean/asian servers for free I think, possibly even with English patch months ago, which would give a head start to many here in the west when it comes with the knowledge they;ve accumulate. This is one of the main things that discourage me from playing these asian MMORPG. Finally, I meant about Dragon Dogma coming from single player game, another similar asian MMO.

I don't understand the point of playing this game anymore.  I bought the last expansion at the request of a friend and only logged in once.  It was so benign that I just forgot to even play it again.  That made two WoW expansions that I purchased and didn't play.  If I buy another one I'll have to kick myself in the face.

To all those who won't be playing (and simply WOW is not for you) this is why WOW has been at least for me an enjoyable experience, despite coming from vast sandbox MMO experience.

I learned to appreciate, enjoy and simply feel great sense of community as well as feel valued and needed being part of a guild, and especially the better I became the better guilds I could be part of. I had long term goals in WOW, raiding for hard to obtain titles as well as mounts were part of those long term goals. On the side when not raiding I was doing plenty of arena PvP 2v2/3v3 mainly as well as rated battlegrounds for titles and achievements and simply it was nice overall challenging experience.

One thing WOW did well was it felt like a MMO, I was constantly involved with others to achieve goals, while also doing side things like making gold, working on professsions, achievemnts or hunting other cool collectables. When I compare WOW with all new that has come through the last 8+ years, nothing does it as good or significantly better in regard to both PvP and PvE.

Now, I'm looking at 2016 and what do I play? I play muliple F2P MMO's 2-3 that I game hopped through the last 2-3 years (2 ARPG and 1 private server), not even traditional MMORPG's as well as a F2P shooter as a back up for variety. Regardless if WOW: Legion delivers or not for me at the end it will help me to again vote with my wallet and not spend $ on any new product that has come for the last 6 years and like I said above it I doubt Blizzard can do and intends to do worse with Legion than what they did with WoD, unless they really don't care about keeping subs past the first 1-2 months for another 2 years.

They aren't making WOW 2 or any other MMO and I'm certain they still are interesting to keep a market share in this genre. After all for a while WOW was a billion dollar annual revenue for them.

WoW became boring for me years ago. There are plenty of other games to play, movies to see, tv to watch ... there is no reason for me to go back to an old game.

It wasn't bad when I played it, but all games get old, and I would rather be doing someone new.

Pretty sure my wife would object if I tried "doing someone new" :p

As to the OP, you know what I'll be playing this summer.

Anyways, one thing is certain as time goes by more options for us the players are out there for gaming, either it's a single player games or other genres. Time is a factor, one many companies who are into the game business should be seriously considering before how they want to approach us.

For 2016 there are certain products that can afford launching free to play and there are certain products that can warrant a $25-50 monthly sub access fee for their game. It's us the potential customers at the end that make the final judgment based on all options we have available. If I'm paying for something in the gaming business, it has to be on a whole new level that all I can get my access to for free. That's as simple as I can put it.

World of Warcraft has proven to be able to deliver this experience to me many times over the decade and without anything else on my radar in 2016, my choice become easier. This is one more advantage of playing those F2P games, I'm not attached to them as many have like Kyleran and his 6 EVE sub accounts, so I can totally go with WOW since it's been my only game I've been spending $ through the last 5 years, 4 months and 3 weeks.

i will never ever buy a sub game.
I wasn't planning to post in this thread, since I won't ever play WoW again.  But this comment deserves a rebuttal.

Going to see a movie, + popcorn and soda = about $15 USD for two hours of entertainment.

Going to a bar, $15 will keep you going for about two hours, depending on the bar.

$15 won't even get you into most concerts.

$15 = what a cheap restaurant meal costs, which is, well, one meal.

$15 = the rental fee for three typical movies on PPV, which is about 6 hours.

Paying a subscription fee to a game you like buys countless hours of fun and entertainment, as many as you want to invest.

Subbing to a game looks like a really good deal to me, especially when you correlate hours of entertainment per dollar.  Someone who plays 30 hours a month (considered a casual player) is getting an hour's entertainment for 50 cents, or half a dollar.  Someone who plays 90 hours a month (considered a hardcore player) is paying 18 cents an hour...

What do you get for that sub fee?  A game with the resources to grow and improve, adding content regularly.  I think a measly $15 a month is well worth it IMO.
I don't like renting my games. I don't like the idea that I may have spent $500 on the game, but I can't play again until I cough up more money not for anything in return but access to the servers. Not only that they design content to keep you spinning the treadmill just to milk money out of you.

You're right $15 a month isn't much. But the thing is in my games that are sub-optional I don't have to spend $15 every single month. I can. I can spend $50 if I want.

That's also true of sub games now isn't it. It's $15 baseline. Then there are the xpacs/dlc that are extra. There are cash shop items that are extra. Some games have a subscription, after the dlc fee, just to play, and then you have to rent extra storage space. I'm sure Squeenix is laughing all the way to the bank on that one. Not only that they charge you for account transactions like moving servers, renaming your character, things that in 2016 don't cost $25 to do at all in any way shape or form.

I would buy Legion if WoW was B2P. I would go back and pay for all the xpacs again if it were B2P. But I'm not paying $50 - $100 for Legion and then another $180 to play for the year.

$15 a month in rental fees might be a good deal to you but I can get better gaming deals for that money elsewhere.
My preference is the ESO model.  Whatever people may think of the game, the business model is very, very good.  You can play as a free player, which leaves you out of DLC zones, unless you buy the DLCs.  Or you can pay the fee and get access to all of the DLCs.  With the monthly fee you get 1500 Crowns (cash shop currency) a month, which costs, if you buy those 1500 directly from the store, $14.95 USD, the same as the sub fee.

I really appreciate this business model.  When I started playing again, I was in quite a financial bind.  I was injured on the job, and my !@#$ company denied the Workman's Comp claim.  I reported the injury to my boss, who quit the next day.  Somehow her report was 'lost'.  So I had to use up my savings just to pay bills, because I was pretty badly injured and could not work.  So when I started playing ESO again, I joined as a F2P.  I did so until they settled my claim, and I was able to get back to work.  Once I was back to work and started replenishing my savings, I subbed to ESO.  In other words, I had the choice how I wanted to play.

I know several games have this business model, but all games should look at this as a template IMO.

Based on this poll so far the way it seems Blizzard has lost half of its current player base after WOW:WoD, but still having 20% of the market with 10% undecided is almost 1/3 of potential market to get back in WOW:Legion this year, that's really good, especially how it's also still 3 months ahead. The interest will spike further the closer the game comes to launch.
Trying to take any kind of meaning from a self-selection survey, without any other information present other than their choice i the poll. great stuff.

I've been playing wow on and off since release and i still enjoy the game. I'n fact it's the only mmorpg that iv'e stuck with over the years. I preferred earlier expansions more but still get lots of enjoyment out of it.
