A point about the 3 month 'headstart'

ZultraZultra Member UncommonPosts: 385
People say it will make it OP for PvPers to be in the 3 month pre-launch when infact it is the opposite.

Whilst the characters themselves potentially have more knowledge about combat but they will just about leave there physical prime, since by the time the Full launch happens they will be nearing or over there 40's, who is physically stronger a fit 18 year old or someone in there late 40's?

Did the studio mention that characters in the 40's are weaker than 18 years old ones?

Even if it's the case, I doubt that it will have a significant negative impact on gameplay, and players with a 3 months headstart would probably not be impacted much considering the huge advantage of having a 3 months headstart.

Your also not considering the skills that have been learnt, what is better a fast but wildly swinging swordsman, or a slower but accurate one :)

This post is all my opinion, but I welcome debate on anything i have put, however, personal slander / name calling belongs in game where of course you're welcome to call me names im often found lounging about in EvE online.

They have said significantly weaker and that's even if we get a character in the prime of their life. Some of us will get non-traditional characters that are already into their adult life when we start

Taken from a comment (from a community member) on the CoE Site

37.5 is how old 15 year olds from exposition will be at launch.

2-3 months after launch (notice that important part) the new players will be in their 30s and 15 year olds from launch will be in their 50s.

That is important, they will not have long till they are out of frontline combat.

However older soldiers will be important as they will be Marshals, Trainers, Commanders and Generals.

That's the point of the exposition phase. They expect that people will start at various 'ages', rather than having an entire continent of 15 year olds. Those that start in exposition will be there to train the new ones coming online at launch - remember, you learn trades both by doing and being taught by others. It's like an accelerated real life story, the old ones train the young ones who eventually become good enough to train the ones that come after them. And so it goes on.

I think those arriving after exposition will actually be in a far better 'state' for want of a better word. They'll have the possibility of huge benefits from established families, kingdoms and guilds...something those in exposition have to start up from scratch.

Seems weird then that SS keeps touting it's all about player skill

My only concern is about how the game/devs deals with a large group of players who get together nearly solely for the purpose of denying other players access to areas of the world.

It won't matter what else happens in exposition or in launch if the Goon Types come in and rally. I'm not talking about in game conquest as advertised, but scorched earth Meta-Players intent on watching the world burn.

I could afford to buy a title for kickstarter but chose not to because I think these guys are gonna swarm and remove a good amount of nobles from the get go. I hope I'm wrong but the impulse to wreck what other people build is very strong in PvP games. Even in this game there will be players who want nothing to do with the context of the world and will just be looking to take fun away from others.

The staff should consider putting in Dragons that attack such armies, or wrathful storms that descend on Meta-Hordes.

The more I learn about CoE the more I realise that it's all just a beautiful dream. It cannot possibly work as a game, because most of it consists of selected real life mechanisms that are supposedly being modeled. Real life with the boring bits removed.

Unfortunately, the whole fabric of real life unravels when you only select certain aspects of it and then remove the "boring bits"...

Read through that DJ before but I read it again and also the comments and I don't see where they say that the idea is that all this nobility is fine and good but a larger army invalidates all of that.

From their standpoint I guess they figure that is a large amount of paying players so they probably figure the novelty will wear off and the Meta-Guilders will just take over the terrain, get bored, and then move on.

So some players will start the game 3 months ahead of all else?

Yes. Anyone who pays at least $120 gets a 3 month head start with no wipe.

"goon swarm" will not last long in this game, yes they could cause chaos in a localised area but they will be destroyed, no infrastructure, economy or allies.

How can it not be a headstart if there is no wipe and they start 3 months ahead of anyone else?

That sounds like a unfair advantage just because you pledged more then the other guy.

This is why i dislike these kickstarter projects, there is no equality.

Zultra is wrong it is a had start.  What he should have said is that it's aimed at helping people build up settlements to help the majority of other players.

There will be some that taker advantage of it. To be honest anyone that doesn't is silly.

The thing is the is no equality in a game like this. You just have to push past everyone else to become one of the best.
Yes my headstart and baron rank will give me an advantage but since I'm using it to help my guild and my guild has 30 others in it some of who are not in expo I am helping them.
I will also be posting in the forums when I know what I have got in expo looking for people to live in the village that I am creating.
It will come with a small house and basic start for your profession. All I ask is stick to th laws and pay the tax to maintain the fortress

Aye, we will be making our realm, but in the process we will create many things such as universities, markets, schools, forges etc..

All I want to see is how this actually works out in alpha and beta.  I predict lots of changes during testing these theories.

Goons or who ever will sit back, study, and wait until launch to make a move because adjustments are harder to make after launch, or at least that what I would do.  I would just do the headstart to setup a base for raiding other players.

    exposition follows this structure:

month 1 - building of infrastructure - no pvp (exception being agreed duels)
month 2 - open pvp for normal assault etc. ( no Casus Belli pvp)
month 3 - opens up Casus Belli (realm control) pvp

I disagree with people who claim the 3 months exposition is not a headstart.

Its definitely a headstart. There are definitely advantages to be had from it. That's just not up for debate.

My argument is that the advantages are not significant enough to permanently slant one group into an unachievable level of economic or military power. That is to say, it can be overcome.

Its a sandbox, not a race to the finish. Sand moves, and sand castles can fall and be reshaped anew.

It's something that sounds different and I'm tired of the stale old MMO's where you go out with intructions to kill ten rats and find someone else already doing it so you fight over rats or wait for them to finish then you go back and get another quest to kill twenty super rats, then thirty mega rats ad-bloody-infinitum.

Soulbound Studios are offering a chance at something completely different and I decided to go along with their ideas and shoot a little money their way to help them in the only way I could. It'll work out the way we all hope (well, most of us anyway) or it won't. Time will tell.
