Oh, I have read and researched, and I do see what they are trying to do.
They are focusing on dungeon crawls.
No community. No crafting. No world you can make a lasting impact on. No future for you to help shape. No greater goal beyond collecting items and money. Why detail the world, when players will never see the lands they traverse to get to that dungeon? Instant action - right to the dungeon & start bashing.
I love dungeon crawls. But they're not a campaign.
Well, i will mainly try D&DO for the RP oportunities, tho i dont think there will be much development of meaningfull RP in the game if it doesnt have some large free areas outside the city to explore, so we can set up events and such, oh well... have to wait and see.

Your very wrong with this comment. (Swing and Miss) The Dev Team is always talking about their Campaigns and all the years that they have played D&D. Now they are in a Campaign with one of the Lead Designers of D&D. Never played hmmm.
I dont like to disagree with another D&D fan. But I doubt that those devs are serious D&D players. I dont say that they never play the game. But they didnt play it that much, or at least they didnt read the rules and understand them and then they play whatever they want.
A lead designer that say main melee damage come from rogues is obviously EQ confused or a pawn at the service of WotC, this is like not knowing a royal name. If any designer on the team would be a serious D&D player, the lead designer would have been corrected before saying such a mistake. This type of mistakes dont forgive. (backstab was, until recently, something that can be done only once per round...to relly on backstab for regular melee damage is utopic, this is why rogues never got the weapon specialisations, while even some paladins or clerics did get it in some prestige class). D&D is been affected by EQ, thereby why the rogues tend to become more melee oriented. But this is a SLOW process and it is not even the case with the current rules(anyone immune to critical, normally or magically, is immune to backstab/sneak attack...you cant rely on such a frivolous source that will be unavailable at least half the times you would be needing it).
