One of the biggest German StarCitizen Fansites and Radio goes offline.

[Source: German] (translation below)

Greetings Star Citizens.

As you've probably noticed the amount of updates by Star Citizen News Radio has dropped significantly. The reason for this, among other things, is that Mera and I have increasingly lost interest in Star Citizen. We are both Golden Ticket Owners and have been with SC from the very beginning. Unfortunately it became increasingly clear that at SC promises of CIG and the reality are very far apart. Of course, we know that there currently is an Alpha but we also see that SC has big problems at every nook and cranny, and it is very difficult to eliminate those. As we know, this is not only our opinion, but also many other Backers of the first hour think this way. Also, the constantly increasing commercialization displeases us both CIG (permanent concept sales) and in the SC "Fan Area", and the behaviour of individuals from the community toward people such as AngryBot (threats against him and his family). This can not be tolerated. People, SC is just a game. No more and no less.

A fan page like Star Citizen News Radio requires a very high time and effort to keep constantly updated (Search News, translations) but we are currently not ready to make this commitment for Star Citizen. Of course we are also aware that with the end of SCNR the (probably) only and really critical and independent from clans, organizations and CIG, German speaking SC Fan page will go offline and therefore we have long hesitated to take this step. We have invested much time and money in this project and therefore it is really not easy to announce the end of SCNR.

We now want to thank all the SCNR SC fans that helped to build one of the largest German fan sites. Of course we want to thank those who have supported us over the past three years with news, translations, their knowledge and commitment to us. We deliberately refrain from naming them all individually, because it would be very sad if one of them would fall through the cracks, and this could happen too easily with the large number of them.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH TO ALL OF YOU!

Fly save!

How long before the attacks on them for saying they don't like the direction of the game you think? Lol

There have already been death threats against AngryBot, a German youtuber and streamer. The fanatical base of this game cult is really toxic and delusional. Imagine what will happen if the project never becomes what these people dream it will be.

Of cause that is just a minority.

Care to elaborate on that? It was a huge, if not the biggest SC fan-site in Germany. How can this be for the best?

They got burned out, it's for the best for the people invested in it. Radio Show's are very taxing because your brain has to keep up with a rational pleasant speech for the audience, all that live and without cuts.

First of all, you need to read again. They did not burn out. This does not sound like burnout to me:
    • "[...] it became increasingly clear that at SC promises of CIG and the reality are very far apart"
    • "[...] the constantly increasing commercialization displeases us both CIG (permanent concept sales) and in the SC "Fan Area"
    • "[...] the behaviour of individuals from the community toward people such as AngryBot (threats against him and his family)"
Secondly, it was not just a radio station it was a huge forum for fans and many orgs, news site and fanfic/roleplay site.

Anyways, in am off to bed.

    Carry on Commandos!

Alas, such a thing happens in hundreds of gaming communities at the moment. Sign of anonymous internet stupidity, it seems.

Some even make a sick sport out of it --> "Swatting"
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swatting

Seems to be especially prevalent in FPS game communities.

CLEARLY, this is evidence that Sandi is sending out her cult followers! DS will save the day, though!

    Possibly.

Or else their page hits and "listeners" have been steadily decreasing...

Of course they won't admit it, it's always more convenient to blame "external factors" and so on. YouTube and twitch streamers do this regularly when they need to switch to fresh content to keep viewers.

They got more listeners than INN get's views on youtube and INN is an international site not a German speaking only.

German fans of SC that don't understand English must be a bit disappointed at this news. No doubt the other German-language fansites will be happy though. :D

Doubtful, if the fans were at all bothered then they would have left feedback to that effect, if anything its probably because of feedback from the sites users that they decided to do what they did, if there are other fansites that will pick up the slack, no idea, are there any? :p

The OP says they are: "One of the biggest German StarCitizen Fansites...", which implies that there are several other German fansites of equal (or greater) prominence.

@SpottyGekko There are plenty of German fansites ready and willing to take over the SCNR fans. Several of equal (or greater) prominence.

@Phry Some users left feedback on that website that they regret that this ops is closing down.

SCNR has a been the center of a bit of drama over the years because they basically DEMANDED from CIG to get the news files in special, easy to read/process file formats (pdfs) to make their translation easier. CIG was not willing to give em the "special treatment" because they were just one of many fan sites. They did not appreciate this and vocally stated so.

Are you onto something or just on something?

This is what happens when you have a person like Ben Lesnick (from the Ben Lesnick's horror show website!) try to manage a 'community'.

I'm told some backers did find some uses for the website though as it was part of the charge back reasoning.
"I found an employee at CIG said THIS while working at a high school! I said I no longer wanted to give them my business but they refused. They also sent me this letter which doesn't look all that legal to me."

And these hypothetical backers got most likely laughed out of the chatroom when the operator found out that this was around 10 years BEFORE that person started to work at CIG. BEFORE he became an employee of CIG. A decade old website and statements he has dissociated himself from in the meantime.

Statements made when an employee is 28 years old follows you.
In 2008 when Ben made those statements, imagine what would have happened if someone reported it to the authorities. Schools being on lock down with heavy armed police personnel has happened before for far less.

Yes, Ben made statements that actually would have caused the police to send their special units to the school he was employed at.

Not sure what a 'Chatroom' has to do with a charge back as that's not how you file that.
The backers can point out that the employer was made aware that the employee made those statements but
    a. Employee is still working there
    b. Did not make any statements

Some were able to argue that "a+b = tactifully endorsing such statements".

Charge back is all about convincing the Credit Card company and this is just one of many items that can be used.
