Steam has done nothing to turn around the fate of any of the mmo titles that have released on it, I really dont get why carbine think this will be any different.
I disagree, Tera and Star Trek are doing much better with Steam
This game is really good and it deserves the publicity and support of more players. I don't understand why everyone hates it so much, it's 100X better than WoW.

Because it's hideous to look at and boring to play.

100x better than WoW, yet almost no one wants to play it. Hmmmm. I guess it's just TOO good. That solves the riddle!

Hideous? Yet people enjoy wow? I find the game has pretty good graphics considering the style. To each their own I guess?

Wow is actually a very appealing looking game in its own art style, it also takes itself a lot more serious. Which is a good thing.
Wildstar looks and is goofy, I tried hard to play Wildstar but everything about it screams to uninstall.
I too fiddled with the game's gamma setting. I guess i have it at 1.4 to tone down some of the screaming colors. I really like it after the small graphic revamp though... too bad that Carbine messed up and SweetFX doesn't work anymore.
Really wish Wildstar was a better game. It had some interesting themes, and the classes themselves were neat. The blend of fantasy and sci-fi was pretty good. However, the comedy felt really forced. The screen became very busy with too much trying to happen at once. The questing system was a mess when I played, lots of bugs and some quests simply didn't work. The character animations were very bland too.
People like you complain about the twitchy combat system, the "odd" crafting, the "useless" path system etc. allover the forums and at the same time call it the #1 failed wow clone. While -beside other- features just these set it apart from WoW. Yes, the game has failed so far and everyone can agree to that -though not for being a WoW clone, but for being too far off the WoW formula in certain aspects and because Carbine have proven over and over again that they no idea how to run a game.
There are game that tried ten times harder to resemble WoW than this one. I could name you one and elaborate on how hard it failed, but then...speaking out against that game grants you a warning on these forums.
All i see are i played at launch and havent played since now im gonna rip on this game while there are hundreds of players playing and enjoying the game. Many of us don't need a huge surge we just wanna see a population increase and with the coming update *Redmoon* should help retain some of that player base. Overall people should try out this game ive only been level 50 for about a week and a half and ive been having so much more fun then ive had in wow in years. But that's just one nobodys opinion.

"hundreds of players" lol... Honestly though it's a shame that a "solid" game is having so much trouble. So many significantly worse MMOs manage to find their niche over time, not sure how Wildstar failed so spectacularly. I just don't see how the steam launch changes anything.

because it was mismanaged due to poor leadership/direction...it has/had other issues but that was the number one killer imo

I think steam release could really bring in a crowd that could maybe get behind it. I think people fail to remember how bad Aion was at one point not to say it was ever this bad but we just need to keep the lights on and maybe a content drop every so often. :P *wishful thinking i know*
Someone mentioned earlier that Wildstar failed to prosper, in part, due to it's over the top art style. While the style is not my first choice(leaning more toward ESO's realistic style myself) it was well done and appealed to many people, young and old alike. I know that mmorpg and moba/arena shooter are different genre, however it is worth noting that the number one game this week in both EU and NA is being lauded for it's goofy art style and light hearted approach.........Overwatch.

The end of the year "seams" very far away, will WS be a footnote in history by then ?

Steam will surely bring players to WS. The problem for WS always was and still is keeping said players.

Thought this game was dead a while ago. Still might be, why they necroing a game via steam? Is that what is hot on the street now?
