I imagine its easy to watch and doesn't tax ones brain too much which will be perfect for the WoW crowd given the game itself is easy to play and doesn't tax ones brain too much either . Its probably entertaining enough as a glossy and trashy family fantasy movie . Its Warcraft it was never going to be high art or high brow entertainment was it .

What's wrong with turning your brain off and enjoying a movie?

I can't think of any major American film that has ever come close to taxing the brain so not sure what that has to do with anything.

Depends on what you mean by "taxing the brain". I don't think, in general, blockbusters of any nation are there to "tax the brain".

But Deer Hunter, Apocalypse Now, 12 Angry Men and One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest come to mind.

I think you could read something into just about any movie. Transformers? Ohhhhhh! Look, refugees from another planet come to America and feel the need to hide their identity from humans due to fear of prosecution. Ohhhhh, and when they do find out about them, what happens? We lock them up because we're concerned about their danger to society. Interesting.

I  think It is safe to say in China they love games. The turnout for this movie is just a reflection of their current society and vast gaming culture.

Second day in China, it's now made $90 million.

Warcraft has broken all records and is now the single highest performing US based movie to ever release there.

Finally saw the film, I enjoyed it immensely.

If you're hating on it as someone that thinks any game stories are decent, you haven't seen it.  I couldn't find one major fault with the film to explain the hatred (other than it being released in the states late and being hated for that).  It's not lord of the rings but who would of expected that being based on a game?  it's still damn entertaining and inline with any good story I've seen in any game (wow, shadow of mordor, ffxi, ffxiv).  I was going through the 2 hours constantly waiting for the movie to falter because the bad press soured me, thing is that it never did.  It was good from the start right to the end.

The casting, the acting, the special effects, the story were all amazing.

Amazing film, 9/10 as far as I'm concerned.  It rightly deserves the amazing box office showing it's getting everywhere.

I had a feeling the movie critics were being too harsh.
Are you onto something or just on something?

There have been alot of movies called "flops" that did ok by the time home rental/purchase was counted in. I thought it was just ok, and I wouldn't tell anyone they should see it. It was about what I thought it would be. 4/10 is probably generous.

I thought i was the only person who has seen all these movies in their time and is still alive to tell about it.

Good to know, I plan to watch it soon. The critics have been absolutely savage, check out this gem:

"There hasn't been a movie as unrelentingly bad since "Jupiter Ascending" managed to surpass the bloated and pitiful "Battlefield Earth" as the worst big budget science-fiction film of all time."

    Ouch!

Also apparently in the blue ray version there is supposedly an extended version of the movie.

I really hope they do well because I want to see more of the lore in movies and the only way that will happen is if they do well in the first one.

Now that you mention it..... very very disturbing. Was going to say more but deleted it.

Well I found it be a throughly enjoyable movie. I thought it was even slightly more enjoyable than Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and I would be a fan of both franchises.

I don't play WoW anymore, but the lore and books they have behind the franchise are excellent and this is a terrific foray into the world of cinema for it.

There are too many people jumping on the 'cool to hate on' bandwagon. Go see the movie and just let yourself view without anyone else's opinion. I would highly recommend it as an action packed fun fantasy adventure movie.

I'm glad, because could not care less for critics opinions as critics are usually failed people, failed in life and then they try to ruin life also to others. Not all, but many. All in all, I have enjoyed 3 times in 1 week, every single time and every minute. Impressive feeling being in Stormwind and other locations, being part of Wow.

I enjoyed it, was a fun little movie, my 7 year old asked me to tell him when there's another one.

I want the next movie to be about the orc baby sent down the river and what happens to the half orc chick that killed the king.

Just fyi I have never played WoW and don't intend to so I don't know much about the lore and don't care about the game so much.

Brenics ~ Just to point out I do believe Chris Roberts is going down as the man who cheated backers and took down crowdfunding for gaming.

As far as I remember Star Wars: TFA didn't do very well in China to begin with, so I don't think the example is saying what people seem to be making it out to say. It would be like saying WC did better than Jupiter Ascending in the states. Which isn't saying much at all.

It may be a hit in China, that doesn't negate how it's performing in other markets, especially in markets more similar to our own. Same with Star Wars, which performed horribly in most Asian Markets. It was beat out by an Anime flick in Japan on it's opening weekend. Different markets have different tastes.

Yeah, it's done $160 million total in foreign box office sales. So over half of their box office has come from China at this point. That being said, it was also strong in Russia where it opened with $10 million (3 times more than the next movie) helping the box office to it's best (total) opening weekend since January. It opened with 3 times the sales as the 2nd place movie. It also debuted #1 in UK, Spain, Brazil, Netherlands, France, Norway, Thailand, Iceland, Slovenia and assuming many more but I can't get opening weekend stats on many places yet since foreign box office numbers from many countries haven't been updated recently. It finished second in Italy..... Damn Italians.

I imagine that the foreign box offices will quickly cool off, though. That being said, I could see it doing $300-400 million in foreign box office quite easily.

No one is going to mention that his sex doll looks like a 12 year old girl?

Anyways, I saw the movie and I actually liked it more than I had anticipated, that being said it was still pretty cheesy but for the most part the cheesiness was acceptable to me considering the IP.

All the elves looked like cosplayers you would see at a gaming convention. Bad elves.

Orcs looked awesome for the most part but that could just be me being a fan of everything orc.
    All about the orcs.

The romance was awkward at best. Me being generous.

The two mages (The guardian and the novice or whatever the hell he was) were just outright annoying and poor casting decisions, they just did not fit (my opinion).
I just wanted these guys to die off in some spectacular fashion that would exact the same kind of pain I experienced watching them fumble about on screen.

I'd give it a solid 6/10 and i'm not even a Warcraft fan or a WoW player although i've played both in the past.

My opinion, it isn't amazing, it isn't terrible but it is entertaining, unlike Batman V Superman and the new X-men. In fact, if I could travel back in time and tell myself as a kid that I would grow up and enjoy the Avengers movies more than the X-Men movies I would think grown up me is an idiot and not listen to anything myself said ever again. Lo and behold.
