PS4 NEO - Not making gamers excited

Some excerpts :

"It is believed that PS4.5 will have better clock speed and improved GPU compared with PS4. Also, PS4 has 18 “compute units” running at 800MHz clock speed while PS4 Neo is expected to be powered with almost double compute units running at 911MHz. Also, reports from Giant Bomb suggest that PS4 Neo will run on an improved octa-core processor at 2.1GHz and will have a faster RAM than PS4 "

"Sony affirms that PS4 Neo will provide enhanced resolution and offer greater frame rates but this should not upset the existing 40 million users of PS4. This is because all games will be engineered in a way that supports both the consoles, making sure that the existing PS4 owners will not have to bear any additional cost."

"Sony informed that both the current and refurbished versions of PS4 will support the company’s PlayStation VR headset that will be launched in October."

"Sony must up its ante as 2017 is expected to be a big year for video game makers as both Nintendo and Microsoft are expected to come up with brand new consoles.

Presently, Microsoft is hinting at the launch of innovative offerings ranging from lower cost versions of Xbox One to streaming micro-consoles at E3."


Sounds like there will be a lot going on with hardware this next year.  I was surprised to hear about the possibility of a streaming micro console from Microsoft.  I definitely want to hear more about that.

    Is Sony really trying to convince us that this NEO is going to handle 4K at acceptable fps ?

    I'm excited about the PS4 Neo... It'll mean that the current PS4 will become cheaper and then I might get one. Still happy with my PS3 though...

    Can we just get rid of this garbage already please? There is no reason for gaming consoles to even exist any more. Unless you are too stupid to learn how to use a PC why would anyone waste 400$ on this junk? Don't most people own a PC anyway these days? So just get a better GPU for your PC and you have something to game on. I'm so tired of games being crap because they need to be playable on a potato gaming consoles with 4 buttons. Just put these consoles in a museum where they belong and let's move on already.

    The PS4 will definitely drop in price a bit, no doubt,  if nothing else than to compete with the new XB systems that are being reduced almost monthly now as they ramp up for their own new hardware releases.

    I'm skeptical about 4K running smoothly as well... but more powerful XB and PS systems are definitely a must as with everything they're running these days I feel they get a little laggy.  It may not run 4K reliably, but if you can scale it and it runs HD games with better FPS, I say shoot for the moon.  Just make it affordable.

    With us having fractional numbers on the playstation side and expansion video cards with 2-3 year cycle times on the xbox side, we have come to witness the end of the consoles as consoles.

    The primary reason why consoles were able to do more with less was because when coding for them you knew EXACTLY what you were coding for.  Losing this advantage is a huge issue.

    Well.. sort of...  I still believe you'll have that on the Xbox side, to a varying degree.  That was kind of the purpose of UWP,  only systems that can rung the game will show in the store.  That is both a blessing and a curse.

    Eh, Microsoft and Sony are making much ado about nothing, in my opinion.

    Only folks with more cash than since will be forking out cash to buy these "updated" current-gen consoles (again, in my opinion).

    "4 buttons"? Looking at the PS4 controller, it has 18 buttons.  Not to mention the hardware is better than most of the toasters people insist on using.  If people just want to play games, $350 isn't a bad deal, given how much a good video card costs. Not to mention everything else that goes into a decent PC.

    Actually most people who own a PC don't own one good enough to play anything but tablet quality games.

    I wish, but I just watched an interview with Bethesda and they're very excited for the quick iterations of Xbox releases. They're already used to PC's being beefed up regularly and now they can make better games more often for consoles as well.
