The only thing SC is offering that these games might not offer is trading. ME will have a Persistent Universe.
Again I have to ask have you played Space sims before? X-series, Elite, anything like that? If you think the only difference is trade, I don't know what else to say but go play one of those titles.
Completely missing anything you are implying here. Flying through space landing on planets landing on other ships. Shooting things, meeting aliens, setting up aliances with these aliens. Sounds like you will have more freedom and control in the PC games.
So what exactly does a space sim offer that isn't going to be a part of ME and COD? Besides trading and building space stations. Which will probably be a part of ME but we aren't sure yet.
To put it simply most Space sims are like empire building games, the overall point is controlling territory, as well as ownership, production, etc.... Gameplay consists of building, operating as well as protecting trade routes, stations, amassing fleets, etc...
To boil it down even further.. A space sim is essentially a few types of games in one, there are elements of strategy gaming at play, open world exploration, as well as dogfighting & ship to ship combat. These systems only get deeper when introducing them into a multi-player environment.
Their development times alone suggest this isn't what COD or ME are going to be about, they'd have to take the game-play they're known for as well as add a significant amount of fleshed out features on top of it. That is highly unlikely to be the case here.
The new ME is an empire building space simulator. Now does that mean mining and crafting or simply diplomatic? That has yet to be seen. But it is definately diplomatic space exploration empire building pc game. All they have to do is add multiplayer Persistent Universe and well there you go.
COD is definately SQ42 wrapped in a different package made by a differrent company. There is no reason to believe otherwise. They are both offering a single player campaign that requires you to fly ships and do things that will result in some combat. The only difference is SQ42 might have diplomatic options where as cod usually has combat options.

Ugh! This is not what a "Space Sim" is. If this is what a Space Sim is, Chris Roberts never finished one. But feel free to create your thread if you want to discuss what a Space Sim is or is not. This is not the subject here. Thanks in advance.
Can't forget titles like SPAZ2 and SG: Warlords. They're not sims, but they combine space battles with 4X style features like fleet and space station construction, research / tech trees, and territory control. Not to mention that Elite: Dangerous is constantly increasing its scope as well, and already offers a persistent universe of sorts.
Roberts was right about one thing: The time frame for the release of SC was important. Unfortunately for him, he spent far too much time and money farting around, buying fancy office furniture, trying to boost his wife's acting 'career', and so forth. His competitors have beaten him to the punch, and he knows it.
The reason CIG showed nothing at E3 wasn't because they needed to stay home and work on the game. It's because they knew what they had to show would be an embarrassment compared to what others have done, and in most cases within a much shorter period of time and a lower or comparable budget.

"The new ME is an empire building space simulator"
You seem to know more about ME:A than any person alive, lol
Care to reveal your sources ?
You also seem absolutely sure what the CoD and SQ42 game play will be like. Again, could you link us to the game play videos that you watched ?
Perhaps I'm wrong, but my understanding of SQ42 was that it would be a "modern" version of Wing Commander, possibly with some FPS action added on the side. If that's what the new CoD will be like, then there's going to be a riot amongst the CoD fans, lol

If you want a new idea, go read an old book.
In order to be insulted, I must first value your opinion.

It serves as a fine example of just how ludicrous some people's "anti-SC" campaigns can get, lol
