You're missing out if you didn't take the plunge, you've been warned, don't come vack here in a couple years and wish you would have started day one, you've all been warned and 10million cant be wrong.
A lot of people during WWII would disagree.

Also consider society today, I would agree.

Still love my Battle Born, but damn if Overwatch isn't a super fun game! Love it.
  • fearufearu Member UncommonPosts: 292
Glad they are having fun in a non-MMO game.

Personally I'm looking forward to Battlefield for my more open pewpew fix.

Uh oh. Blizzard made another highly successful product. Time for MMORPG.com to tell everyone why Blizzard and their products are terrible.

I don't think it's so much that people here think the game is terrible, but that we're perplexed as to why it's being featured so heavily on this website. What about Overwatch qualifies it as an MMORPG? These are very desperate times for our genre, and to see this website hyping a product that simply is not a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game in any respect is disheartening. THAT'S the hangup for a lot of us.

An editor or writer announced that they were going to cover other genres awhile ago. Overwatch is the new hot game. Of course they're going to cover it.

I had no doubt this game would be successful. All the negative Nancy's have to pick on another game now.

No no no, being succesful is EXACTLY what attracts the negative Nancy's, there is nothing more disgusting then that, just read the post below you. The indie, no one knows this game, hardcore niche, sandbox is where it is at, didn't you get the memo?

LOL there's nothing more disgusting? I certainly hope you're speaking specifically to forum behavior, otherwise you need to get out more. :P

As for the Negative Nancy in me, that's raised more by products I simply don't like being successful, like MOBAs, Cartoony shooters, COD like shooters, Action games like God of War, platformers, etc.. As it simply means more and more of those games, and less of the games I actually want to see. Meaning I'm stuck getting my fill from less polished products, or waiting around for some crowdfunded sales pitch to be a reality...

By all means enjoy what you want to enjoy, yet don't act like everyone has to be happy such games are successful, nor that there isn't sound reason for not wanting to see them be successful.

Even if it wasn't active players, 10 million units sold is impressive.

Blizz took a gamble on the FPS genre and it's paid off so far.  It went from Project Titan MMO to Overwatch FPS.  They ditched the MMO genre which was smart, considering how badly it currently is.

This game is actually pretty fun, I'm enjoying it for what it is.
  • DeltoisDeltois Member UncommonPosts: 384
Lol it will lose that many players in 6-12 months. TF2 seems to be doing fine many years later. On top of that I and many people I know and play with think OW is a much better game then TF2.

I don't think it's a terrible game at all, but building upon the decades old TF2 formula...  I expected there to be more evolution.

It's TF2 with ultimates and a play of the game cam.  And honestly, even TF2 experimented with game-changing, short-duration buffs ala ultimates (medic invuln/kritzkrieg).

It just doesn't feel ten years ahead of TF2 despite having that ten years to examine the formula.

Also, after a year of TF2 being out, I didn t play as much, but guess what, I came back to play it from time to time. I m sure theres many like that. So no they don t leave for ever.

Yes, I was joking. I also thought that was pretty obvious. My response was exaggerated because that is exactly what all those negative comments are, exaggerated. As if Blizzard personally destroyed peoples lives or killed their first born.

I do however think that there is no denying that the more popular a product is on this website, the more it needs to be "put in its place" by the community here. This is especially true for Blizzard products, just read the forum comments on any post Blizzard related.

@Distopia I agree with you to a point, you definitely don't need to actively encourage everything to be a success and I do see that it takes away the spotlight and time and energy that could have been invested into other games that you (and I actually) might enjoy more. There is however a HUGE difference between saying 'meh, I don't care about Blizzard. give me a sandbox' and 'Them RETARD Blizzards wit dem stupid dumb gameplay, hope they are the BUR N in firezz!!1!' And yes, these latter comments are disgusting, wishing harm on things because you don't like them is horrible, games or otherwise.

'the only way he could nail it any better is if he used a cross.'

    Kyleran on yours sincerely

'But there are many. You can play them entirely solo, and even offline. Also, you are wrong by default.'

Ikcin in response to yours sincerely debating whether or not single-player offline MMOs exist...

'This does not apply just to ED but SC or any other game. What they will get is Rebirth/X4, likely prettier but equally underwhelming and pointless.

It is incredibly difficult to design some meaningfull leg content that would fit a space ship game - simply because it is not a leg game.

It is just huge resource waste....'

Diablo 3 is not a new IP. You are comparing apples to oranges. Diablo 1 and 2 were the lovechild of a generations of gamers and after waiting for 10 long years, who wouldn't buy Diablo 3?

That's not the case with Overwatch. It is a really solid game, and people are voting with their wallets on it. I haven't touched any other game since OW's open beta. Kinda feels bad. I do not play blizzard games, I tried hearthstone but it seemed a bit too P2W for me, never been into MOBAs to even DL HotS and don't let me get started on the millions of reasons why I hate on WoW and why would I love to see it go.

indeed.. sales are most likely higher than that seeing how you can not trial the game and we know of at least one cheater who bought 4 copies to ban evade.

As for someone trying to bash it for being casual.... No shit Sherlock. It is a Blizzard game.. it is what they do these days. Casual (or rather easy to access) games with a high polish.

You know.... The kind of games that sell to a broad market. =P

This have been a good conversation

This game without a doubt the biggest success in game history. I look at twitch.tv overwatch section and more than half the streamers are hot women!!! Since when the hell so many hot women started playing fps??? Luring in so many hot women to play fps, that is the biggest achievement any fps game developer could accomplish!!! Without a doubt this is the biggest success in blizzard's book!!!

It's only an ok game to me though so I don't know why it's so successful. Good to see it succeed though.

This isn't a signature, you just think it is.

Good point, and just to be clear I wasn't condoning posts like you were responding to in the least bit. I also wouldn't attempt to talk down the game itself, it could be great, which is good for those who enjoy it, I'm just not one who would.

Another point for clarity, I was mostly joking as well with my opening line (hence the :P) :).
