Resource for building your own PC

I have recently become interested in building my own PC. I will never by another OTS rig again as every piece of research I have done has shown me it is far more cost effective to get a high quality PC building it yourself, than it is to order one, or heaven forbid, purchase one from a walk-in retailer.

Here is one resource I highly recommend for anyone looking to get into this themselves. This is a very helpful community and the feature are just awesome.

I too always build my own PCs. I bought an off-the-shelf-one (or rather, my mum did) when I was 14 but i'd never do so again. Far more cost effective to build your own. One resource I use when deciding to build a new PC is http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/

Site also has CPU benchmarks. I can never afford to buy top of the range so the benchmarks are important to me in deciding best value for my money. AMD always wins on the CPU side of things and NVidia usually win on the GPU side of things.

I wouldn't look forward to saving much money, but every dollar you do spend has the potential to get you a lot more performance and reliability vs. off the shelf crap. Anyway, I'm sure there are loads of actual assembly guides out there which are easily found. But choosing each component itself is the real bit. These are two helpful websites. @Pynda - Hey check out the link, that site lets you build your list and then you can go straight to the most economical retailer to order your parts via hot link from the list you just built!. It is very nice, it will also tell you if there is a conflict with any of your parts and how to fix it.
