'the ability to hunt and tame mounts throughout the game'

is NOT setting a new standard in the MMO space.

Especially when Icarus Online has done just that already and to a greater extent than this game.

I'm surprised they even put it in the post to be honest. I have played quite a bit of Revelation Online at this point and personally do not see it as a key feature.

One thing to note however is that Revelation Online is nowhere near as linear as Icarus Online is...

I linked this article on our revelation fansite http://revelation-online.com/ I hope that is alright! Thank you for the Q&A!

Seems to have a lot going for it with tons of potential. And we got pretty lucky with my.com as they are a pretty decent publisher in terms of fairness and no pay 2 win as well as quality.

yet another Asian game that doesn't understand the need for pure PvE servers for the NA/EU market- a few safe haven zones just means you are locked out of where you actually want to be...oh well just like all the other clones, this one will have a limited audience.

Peaceful players can just completely opt out of the system, as we designed it to be completely optional

i think u can opt out of pvp ....so no need for PVE in the 1 place

If they can opt out...then why have "safe zones" at all?

Too much word play going on there to suit me. Seems they are trying to hide something. Maybe not, could just be a cultural thing or word choice. But we will see when the game gets closer to release.

Yeah they never want to just come out and say its a ganking game.

Think it basically just means don't attack back lol.. I guess that's what they mean by peaceful... But the problem is even if you don't attack back I'm sure you still get penalized.....

Opting out of PvP by not levelling past a level or going to certain zones is not really opting out ,that's not what people mean by optional PvP.

MMORPG: What would you say is the biggest hurdle towards getting this game accepted by players in the West?
FA: In all honesty, its aesthetics – the classes are fun to play, the world is gorgeous, and the gameplay has great depth. It is clearly a product influenced by Western MMO’s, but it’s based on Asian lore and design, which unfortunately has a polarizing effect on the audience. We are convinced that once people dive in, they see how it distances itself from some titles that gave Eastern games its reputation.
MMORPG: Have you decided on a revenue model yet? What factors are going into your decision, given the current MMO landscape?
FA: You are right; this is an important topic to talk about. Unfortunately at this point in time we are not ready to reveal more information. I can disclose that a subscription based model is not being considered.

THIS GUY clearly didn't get the memo about how the "west" doesn't like random cash shop upgrade games where illegal gambling dictates how powerful you'll be based on money invested. What's more hilarious is the fact that this joker thinks that AESTHETICS are what is polarizing/lacking in regards to the hundreds of 100% donkey-shit games coming out of asia (all p2w 6 month flash-in-the-pans) over the past 5 years. These two paragraphs sum up everything that is "Asian MMORPG" beautifully!

The problem is Westerners say they don't like cash shops then turn around and open their wallets wide to them.  They aren't considering P2W because they hate people, they're considering it because the data shows it works even in the West.  Until people stop spending crazy amounts in the cash shop it will keep on going.

Also if you think people don't complain about the aesthetics of Asian games around here you aren't paying attention.

FA: Peaceful players can just completely opt out of the system, as we designed it to be completely optional. Players can only participate in the open world PvP from level 40 onwards, which is in place to protect lower level characters. A few zones are also excluded from the system, in order to make it feel like a true open world system, but still providing some safe havens at the same time. With that in mind, we are not planning on servers that specifically exclude the system altogether.

So what does this mean? Are they referring to a system with a PVP toggle? If that is the case, there is no need for separate servers... everyone can play the game as they wish by having it off for the PVE player who wants to focus on that aspect, or those players that want to have it on and engage openly or in their PVP battle zones. I want to be excited for this but if its going to be... stay 39 forever or face the open ganking that is not "completely opt out of the system".

I think Reeereee probably has the right of it.

are YOU sure that the west doesn't like random cash shop games or are you actually making that assumption based upon the loudest of forums?

Because I remember an article about a game that implemented a cash shop, the forum goers screamed and cried and Yadda, yadda yadda, the game company tracked their usage and they were the biggest adopters.

Maybe there is a vocal group who decries all these things and maybe the majority doesn't care?

Someone must not care because gold selling is a huge issue in these games so apparently quite a few players don't mind opening up their wallets to get a leg up as they play. game companies probably see the forum goers say "noooo, you must stop gold sellers" and yet they see that it's a huge issue where (perhaps) a good amount of their players are using it.

I would say that it was players who created cash shops because game companies decided that if they couldn't beat them then they would join them but that's another topic.

Another popular Chinese author MMO... I'm wondering what kind of imports we are going to get in a year or two when we got all those story based Chinese MMO here and they all fall into limbo (how many are still playing Swordman?).

NetEase has learned a lot from the players of the Western games they publish in China and have applied that knowledge when creating content for Revelation.

So I guess this mean this is a WoW/Blizzard game clone. ;)

If nobody got the above reference, NetEase is the publisher in China for WoW, since 2009, and a few other Blizzard games.

Well...the game has an "extended trinity system", as I'd call it...

You have the base roles: Tank, Healer, DPS. But the classes can be specced into secondary roles. For example:
The Swordmage (ranged magic dps) can spec into CC.
The Necromancer (ranged magic dps / debuffer) can spec into healing.
The Gunner (ranged physical dps) can spec into utility (turrets, gadgets, traps).

You are also allowed to freely distribute attribute points as you see fit (pretty much like in Diablo).
This allows you to build a very, very tanky Blader (close range melee dps), or an offensive Guardian (Tank) or a high dps Summoner (who are usually healers, but have to sacrifice healing power to be proper dps).

It's overall a very flexible system (especially thanks to the fact that you can freely distribute the attribute points).

Regarding skills: It's thankfully not as spammy as I had feared. There's enough variation in the skills and you can also evolve skills later on in the game (though I haven't figured that one out yet, since I can't read chinese...)

Iirc every class has around 12 normal skills, 5-6 ultimate abilities (that have to be charged in combat) and 6-ish aerial skills.

Skyforge was a completely different game. More of a lobby based dungeon grinder than an actual MMO. And it was made by a Russian studio, not a Chinese one.
