a buddy of mine says that ever since Ragnarok has fallen, games have sucked and went down hill, who thinks this is true? i think it has risen (due to the fact you can say i hate RO)
edit 1: i posted this a lil later to clarify a bit:
i meant do you think the gaming industry has risen or fallen since the era of RO, Ragnarok is like the last generation of games, we are in-between the second and third right now.
edit 2: i then posted this a little later to clarify it more!
ill try to explain more....ok my buddy loves RO.... he thinks every other game coming in the future SUCKS ASS!!!! and no other game will amount up to it
me, i think RO is old, and he needs to MOVE ON, because Dofus and Roma Victor are coming. I also think WoW, EQ 2, GW (sadly), and every other game INCLUDING RUNESCAPE. has rocked RO's socks.
now that you know whos who and whats what.
He thinks its fallen.
I think its Risen.

whats the connection to Ro "sucking" and gaming going to crap?
You forgot to add the choice "hasn't changed". If you and your buddy think RO is a great game, and that it's decline has caused the MMO genre to fall with it, you're smoking some GREAT stuff, and I want some. RO was semi-unique for it's time. Afterall, it was a derivitive game at the time (asian, not US), and it just happened to be the first asian game translated and released to a massive audience here. The ridiculously long beta helped them as well. In any case, I feel the industry as a whole hasn't changed much since RO has started declining.
I don't see any correlation either. I looked at Ragnarok Online and it didn't look like too much in the first place, but it does seem to still exist. maybe this belongs in the ragnarok online forum, since most people probably don't know what you're talking about

So RO has had a impact on the mmo market? huh?
i seriously doubt that..

Ahh yes, makes much more sense now. Id say its about the same, no better no worse, still plenty of big titles and alot of independents. None are eye popping to me yet, the holy grail of gaming is still not here yet, imo
RO isnt all that much really (well in Asia it is /was) but for the rest of the world
its just another of those annoying Manga games .. so id dunno what to awsner to the question..
its kinda like asking
"has the hamburger quality risen or fallen since mac donalds had a birthday party for john?"
frist you gotta eat hamburgers to know.. then you gotta figure out who the f*ck this John guy is !
(i make so much sense..not?)
ill try to explain more....

well ive played ro for like 3+ years and ive also played wow (6 months) L2 (8 months) Anarchy Online (3 months) Eve online (3 months) Everquest 1 & 2 (about 10 months) but the problems with the games of today is that if u make a rouge for example u make a rouge.. end of story. In ragnarok u make ur own builds by using stat points and skill points which makes every character uniqe. For example wow has skills that makes characters uniqe but its not enough.. ur still a rouge and the possibilities are really restricted. Feels like a lame way to balance characters by restricting them.. RO had like 2-3 years of beta testing to balance the game and its really balanced even tho the possibilites.
Ro is for me the mother of mmorpg gaming.. it had more users than eq1 when it was in beta1 stage and it didnt even sell in the stores or had adds about it.
I really hope that someone can release another mmorpg like RO. Where u can make characters that are uniqe and flexible so that u can make the characters of ur choise. In wow a pala is a pala, a rouge is a rouge. In ro a rouge is a bow rouge or a strip rouge or a backstab rouge or a vitality rouge or a snatch rouge or a... well u get the point .
RO is still the king of mmorpg gaming for me.

What's with all the talk about red?
Anyways... I agree, a little bit, about this. Character customization is important. But I disagree with RO being great at that, because I don't like the whole job/class/lvl thing. RO was a little better at customization than say, WoW, but it's still not great. Once you do a quest to change your job to Rogue, you'll always be stuck as a Rogue.
What if next day you decided you want to play with Katars? You'd haveta grind your ass off to level 40 to make a new character an Assassin. And by then, your friends will all be higher lvl, and can't party/group with you.
RO was decent. But not great, or the best, or anything like that.
well i think its good.. in wow u can actually pay to skill reset. In RO ur stuck with ur choises!
No noobies that steal ur build and as every mmorpg u have to work hard to get to the higher lvls. And skill reset is crap and totally destroys wow!
There is no skill reset in WoW. Once you buy a skill, you have it forever. There's no limit on amount of skills you can have/use. There is no way to delete skills once you have bought them.
The only thing that can be reset is talents. These don't make or break you. They make you slightly more efficient in different forms of combat.
The thing that can make or break you in WoW is *GEAR*. A Priest with absolutely no talents can still heal his/her group well enough to keep them alive. A Priest with no gear cannot. A priest with his/her talents set will just be slightly better at keeping their group alive.
Anyways, I don't really like either game. They're both too linear. Games like these need to stop coming out, there's already enough of them. Give MMORPG fans some games without classes/jobs/levels, give us a good skill system... please?
And to the original question, "ever since RO got old, has gaming gone to crap?" No, because RO was crap, too. It hasn't gotten any crappier. I don't mean to offend. RO was fun, kind of. But almost every "new world" (MMORPG) is fun at first, so that doesn't really mean anything.
hhehe Roma Victor, any job you want to be man hehe, never even have to wield a sword if you dont want to lol

Tried RO
UO rocked it's socks off as does SWG and EVE and err... DAOC... and EQ2... and WOW... hell even AO is better than RO
Funny thing is everytime I see someone talk about Ragnarok Online as "RO" I think of an old MUD I helped code in college called "Renegade's Outpost"

RO is nothing compared to Ultima Online. In fact, Ultima Online's biggest flaw is not having anim
How is it arguable? Text based MUDS had more impact on the MMORPG market than Ragnarok could ever claim. UO had more impact, EQ had more impact. Every game out can trace it's origin back to MUDS, UO or EQ in playstyle.... except EVE which is a truely revolutionary concept (albeit a rather boring one, to me).
