Materia Magica - A Very Retro MMORPG

Hello, fellow gamers. I'm here to make the case for a... retro-style game.  Something that might lack in the graphics department, but the gameplay is so deep and varied that it doesn't matter.

The game in question is Materia Magica.

Materia Magica is a MUD, which is the acronym shortening "Multi-User Dungeon". I'm going to be straightforward; it's text - but keep reading, please. There are no real graphics to speak of, and that tends to put a lot of people off.  As a result, MUDs are kind of a dying breed. That's a sad thing to see from a player perspective. Those of you who enjoy a good book know well that books can delve deeper than any movie can, and as a result are generally more entertaining and satisfying than the movies that eventually get made from them. Well, the same is true of a good MUD, and Materia Magica is probably the best among them.

In its heyday, Materia Magica (henceforth MM) was the digital stomping-grounds of around 100-200 players at any given moment. Sadly, since those times, we've diminished to a community of 20-50. A game with this much (always-ongoing) development and with gameplay this deep (I promise you will find none deeper), with this much character custimization and this much skill-involvement, this rich of a PvE and this rich of a PvP potential should be positively teeming with life.

That's why I'm here, asking for you to consider it. Challenging you to be among those who've given the extraordinary a chance. It is text, there is a deal of reading, and there is typing. The game involves you more than point+click, and as a result, you'll be more invested in it.

So, what's the game about?

MM is a game based in the original fantasy world of Alyria, which is populated by a dozen playable races and nearly a score of classes. You play as an Adventurer, much like any other MMORPG, who starts small, levels and quests their way up to eventually become an Archon. You choose a class at character creation and can from there add another class and their skillset to your character every 60 levels, culminating in a challenge of solo-player skill in a dungeon called the Domain of Arbaces at level 240. Only after completing DoA can you call yourself an Archon, a class unto itself with more and powerful skills and spells.

I'm asking that you try it, feel it out, give it a chance. Complete the newbie area - The Village of Lasler - and make a decision then. No harm can come of trying something new, and you might even find what I have: there is no substitute for good, immersive gameplay. If you want to know more, or have questions, try logging in and most anyone will answer.  Once your character is made, type "ct" followed by your message, and everyone will see.

I know this is kind of pleading, but I don't really care.  If even a relatively small number of people try and like it, everyone wins, and it was worth it.

Ways to play:
There is one server, and it's playable on PC, Mac, or Mobile
(Note: The in-house client for Java, Moongate, is currently unavailable, but other options abound)

Note:
I'm not staff for the game, and I'm not being compensated in any way for this. I just want to see more people in a game that deserves a bigger playerbase.
