I was so excited for Age of Wushu before it came out. I'm a major fan of Martial Arts games. For some reason I could not get into it. I really tried, but it seemed more like having a second job. That could be just me, and the way I approach games. Maybe this new one will be different.
I was just thinking about how my biggest issue with the game is how it takes over your life, lol. So I found it funny that right after thinking about that I saw your comment. Anyway, I think the main reason people feel this way is because of the plethora of (needed) activities that are time locked. I was thinking that with AoW2 , to avoid this feeling among most players (with lives), I hope they reduced the number of time-locked activities and simply have my open ended ones.
Many/most people that pay for premium/VIP/sub status to an MMO are really put off by time/content gating. They pay for a couple months and then quit because it pisses them off.

Savage Horizon (aka Dark and Light 2) is the much more interesting game, a true sandbox MMO. Can't wait for the reveal, it's been a while since we last heard something about it.

    Screens from 2011:

Lol I agree and you noticed where I got my name from. Unfortunately it's not coming out, nothing been heard of it since that last vid of the dragon flying about.

    I guess snailGames chose AOW.

I played Dark & Light even though it was a mess and lawsuit everywhere.

    Most important things for AoW2:
    1. No p2w.
    2. Better class design (esp in regard to aoe and diminishing returns (or the lack thereof - 100 people in guild war using Scholar's spin2win or shaolin air juggling you for 30 seconds straight was just pants on head stupid)),
    3. Better pve content - particularly more of the contested, open world nature (screw those crappy little instance stories, imo).
Throw in ship warfare ala AA and you have my money.

Nope. The first game was a massive let down for many martial arts fans. We had this game with great combat and decent atmosphere ruined by retarded energy systems and grinding dailies.

There is not a chance in hell snail wont exploit the shit out of the next game as well. So really no point for most to even care.

My main issue with AoW was that everything was on a server schedule and if you could be on for the events you missed out.

    Something Awful this way comes.

Not when the same thing happens with virtually every Asian import that is not a Final Fantasy game.

Western players that "pay a sub" to play an MMO, do not want restrictions like an "f2p" player, gates on time and content and such, and when those games do have them (and most do), people stop playing or paying the sub, at least.

Happened with AoW, AA, and several other "almost AAA" Asian imports, it is like the publishers/developers can't stop themselves no matter how many times it causes game populations to crash. Business models kill those games as much as bad game play in the West.

So, no... when it happens that often, it is a pattern, not anecdotal evidence.

Blade & Soul w/ Open World?
The game  was out before blade and souls and is a lot deeper than that game. AOW had 22 million players at one stage and still has millions of players in China.

The American version was a mess but the European version which is called Age Of Wulin is still going strong and has none of the problems the American version has.

Some of the features have never been seen in any mmo today.

I addressed this earlier in the thread. This was my main, if not only issue with the game. In today's world you cant have a game that plays like a second life and Wushu defiantly can consume your life.

Actually Snail Games chose to reveal 3 PC MMORPGs: AoW2, D & L (aka Savage Horizon) and Voyage Century II.

The D & L was project was restarted from scratch in 2015 after it stalled in 2013. Unofficially I heard the game is still at a low level of completion and the game engine was switched to UE4 only beginning of this year. It was expected to complete in 2018 and will feature a large seamless "sandbox" world.

In early 2015 it was officially announced by Snail that AoW2 is in development and they planned to launch it within 3 years (so we are looking at most likely a 2017 or 2018 release date).

Wow I must me psychic. :) Great post thank you.
Quite true - if you stopped playing for a while you will find it very difficult to catch up again.

"Your progress in AoW is measured by the number of years and hundreds of dollars your spend in game" is a complaint I heard from bitter vets in China.

Of the three top Wuxia theme MMORPG from China I would ranked AoW the 3rd place because of flaws in its original design. But with AoW2 we can hopefully see new possibilities and a new contender.

I would like to mention that this game doesn't even have levels.  For those who think that was a neat idea you should try this one.  You basically practice martial arts and learn skills to use.
Are you onto something or just on something?

Interresing , i liked wushu but i stop played because server is shit (high spikes and latency)
  • BorlucBorluc Member UncommonPosts: 262
This definitely caught my interest.  AoW was an awesome game when I played.  I just got tired of the horrible lag.   I guess I also didn't like the way you got special skills.   Lots of Asian mmos hit on many keys but miss some important others IMO.

If they improve their weaknesses and further innovate, I'd be really interested.

Before the revelation of the Age of Wushu 2 (AoW2) later this week, its head of project, in an interview gave out some info on the coming MMORPG - I will just summarized and translated some points of interest here:

AoW2 take place in a non-historical feudal China.

No traditional quest system. World will change according to player and NPC actions.

During combat, there is no health bar or debuff indicator on enemy. Player must determine how badly hurt an enemy is by its physical apperance and pose. For example, you have to guess whether the virulent poison on the dart you throw at the enemy is having an effect by observing the enemy's behaviour.

Better AI - NPCs will be able to form social groups and communities and exert control on territories, eventually building stockades and villages and forming large alliances with other NPC groups.

PvP will be organized into a tiered class system - eg brawling and street fights among players with basic skills, duels between grandmasters and group PvP.

On question of payment model, Snailgames indicated that the current model for AoW would not be work for a sandbox like AoW2 so a new payment model will be developed and revealed later.

It was also noted that player testing will not available until 2017.
