A house and lots of coin gives you a clear advantage over someone who is not starting out with the same. By the time he works and gets those things, the one with the advantage will be even further ahead of him.
getting a house takes under an hour on a new character and horses will be crafted by players within 24 hours
Many people complain about EVE and their currency system. Putting that up as a defense for Albion is not the answer, nor does it address the concerns about buying in game currency for a game based around a player ran economy because a cash shop selling gold can turn the game from a player run economy to a cash shop run economy very quickly.
I don't know what EVE players you're playing with but everyone I've talked with doesn't care one way or the other in regards to PLEX.
It really comes down to the fact that you could spend literally thousands of dollars in EVE and still lose it in less than 24 hours. It is the risk involved that balances this method. Not only this but higher-tier players can EASILY out perform PLEX users. For example soloing lvl 5 missions can rake in an easy 1.5 billion in one evening. PLEX is worth about 1.2 last time I checked.
My only worry with albion is that they make a more skill based combat system as the last time I played it was just "Decent", it's still acceptable in my mind but if their going for a fantasy-style EVE with a RMT they need real risk and skill. EVE has an insanely high skill cap when it comes to combat and tons of mechanics to go along with it. This is what makes PLEX fine in EVE's case as you still have to know what you're doing or you will lose it all very quickly.
What I want to know is exactly what is gold used for in game? I feel that would determine whether or not their shop is a problem
p2w is just loser talk.
Lol indeed. It looked like in the video that the economy could be more barter based, if that's the case - or at the very least you can trade without using gold - I feel like the games economy will begin being entirely barter based and for the most part not use gold at all. I mean if ore can't be bought with money from npc's and you're a miner, why in the world would you ever sell it for gold (an item that deflates in value as more people buy it from the shop) when you could trade it for furs (an item that doesn't deflate in value unless everyone decided to go hunting). If someone who's actually played has some input on how trade actually works in the game I'd be interested!
Reminds me of diablo 2 and the trade for SOJ instead of gold cause everyone had too much gold.
What I want to know is exactly what is gold used for in game? I feel that would determine whether or not their shop is a problem
In their own words (See below) To me that's really bad for the game's economy, even though everyone on the forum page said it was good because they weren't selling items. But what does that matter when players do and you can just get gold/silver here? EVE, PLEX, whatever, it's still RMT and you get something for it.
Hi guys,
to avoid wrong expectations, a few words about our free to play model, cause I think somehow wrong rumours did come up.
Our payment model would be best described as "as EVE just without the monthly subscription fee". Meaning that you can buy Gold (our Plex) and trade this on the market with other players for Silver (our ISK).
The key part for us is that we as a company will not sell any items. So to strengthen the "player-driven-economy", all deals (no matter if you trade gold for silver or silver for items) must be made with other players who did "play normally" for their stuff (silver, items ...)!
So we as a company will NOT sell any items to the players! It might be that that we sell Tier 1/2 (low tier) stuff in case there is not enough available for beginners).
as a Legendary Founder i find lil inspiration to log into this Boring,Lifless game .. As a UO vet I Had high hopes for Albion but up to now have been very dissapointed.... Will check out the latest update but i am not very enthusiastic at all..

One thing you really need to consider is the grind to even USE the items that you will be buying. By the time you grind the mobs in order to get to the next tier you will easily have enough in-game money to purchase the item you want/need.
Also since they changed how the abilities on each item work (Since now you can change the abilities whenever you want to, so no more "Spec specific" items. This will add more competition for each tier of weapon meaning prices will naturally be lower.
Sure you do get things but pretty much every MMO is now doing this so it's not all that big of a surprise or even a big deal for that matter. It started as a way to combat gold sellers, and since you can permanently lose the items you buy, it will make people think twice before spending hundreds of dollars on it.
WOW, EVE, GW2, Wildstar and quite a few others already do it.
games like these sounds great, but in the end the large guilds just end up controlling all the content
Luckily due to how their GVG system works, it's not really like that. The war over a territory is actually limited to a certain # of players, so even small guilds can easily hold a place if their geared. Zerg fests will exist still, but it won't determine the outcome of who controls what.
The gold can be used on the auction house or you can trade it for silver and use that to buy properties that are really OP for a guild. It is kinda P2W at least it was in last couple betas. The land is key in this game for getting anything past t4-5 and anything over t5 will destroy you in PvP.
This game i`ll not play because in my 25 plus years of playing games & those included many in Beta like this one is or was, that charged or you had to actually buy a founders pack just to play it in beta & find there bugs & give your feedback.i`ve gotten many emaiils from them on there patches & changes due to feedback.its the first game i`ve ever found that had the nerve to make people pay to find there bugs & give feedback.P.S. then here it said-finally free then they changed there mind & said buy it in stores.greediest game owners ever
Welp, all i needed to do was read the title to know im never playing this game. So sick of the "you're the hero of the world" shit in MMO's it makes me nauseous.
"The surest way to corrupt a youth is to instruct him to hold in higher esteem those who think alike than those who think differently."
Let's see: Take the most complex genre of the greatest scope and put it on a mobile platform?
The result is what you would imagine.
I think the devs said that tablet/mobile is more meant to be a supportive platform for the game, as in you can easily gather/craft but you won't be competitive in combat.
I've seen this mentioned in numerous places over my few days in looking into information about the game.
Still not convinced whether I'd like to play it though.
I wish there was an open beta.
This game appeals to me on so many levels. But sadly, I'm never going to play it. The 'Free For All' PVP is just too much of a turnoff!
I'm a PvE player, I have no interest in PvP and I refuse to provide the content for 'so called' PvP players who just want to gank carebears.
So I'll be giving this one a miss.
Apparently they recently added a new crime & punishment mechanic that punishes you for ganking those much weaker than you (or something along those lines).
The game is still very focused on PvP though and it's pretty much all there is to to in the endgame as far as I know.
It still seems like a great game for someone who enjoys trading though (ala EvE) considering it's all player managed (including the routes to and from the markets).

We cross posted yesterday so I didn't see this.
If it really works this way it would be much like EVEs PLEX system, a weath redistribution system of in game currency (silver) which someone had to first earn before selling it others for the out of game currency, gold.
But what doesn't add up is what do you buy with gold? In EVE you don't get anything but game time for selling your ISK so no real impact to others.
@Rasiem said you can spend gold in the auction house (to buy silver?) or buy powerful properties which sounds very P2W (or at least P2A) to me.
Would like more info on these gold purchase items.

PLEX is a different in it involves resource reallocation, not injection.
Not sure how this system wouldn't drive inflation though.

The gold/silver exchange is fully player driven, so there is gold/silver trading with other players and not with the devs.
Premium status can also be bought with in-game currency, based on that market.
