Star Citizen - atmospheric flight

The new AtV 3.1 takes a closer look at atmospheric flight in Star Citizen  (Timestamp 3:15)

Besides that, one can also see quite a wide variety of procedurally generated landscape in that report.

Do you personally prefer spaceships that look and feel aerodynamic and have no problems landing on planets with atmospheres ? Or are the more pure-space-craft your kind of thing?

Personally i am a fan of ships that look kind of like a sleek aerodynamic Lamborghini.

I think landing on planets is a must.  Makes the game feel more alive and real to me.  Of course we wouldn't think a capital ship would be landing on planets though.
Are you onto something or just on something?

Is so complex atmospheric flight model really something they should do at this point in development?

I think they should get their stuff together and delay stuff like this until the core game is in better shape.

Would you prefer a more simplified atmospheric flight model like this one ?

Look especially at timestamp 1:00 .... this looks a bit too simplified for my personal taste.

My preference would be for a drop ship; just plummet through the atmosphere and fire the thrusters before hitting the ground.

    ^Lol.

Star Citizen may look better graphically, but flight in both games look to lack realistic movement and momentum. At least to me. I thought it might have been due to applying real "space physics", but movement within the atmosphere in that video looked just as awkward as ever.

See call of duty infinite war or whatever its called for an example of proper flight that looks fluid and to adhere to the laws of physics.

Aliens = Mechwarrior/Battletech style = Starship Troopers (the novel, not the movie) style = Space X style

so .... The second picture, but with a Leopard Class dropship (if we use Battletech lingo).

But this thing flies in space as if it were in an atmosphere. Also 1:53 of that video is fantastic.

Yeah, they'd already confirmed that the larger ships (IIRC Caterpillar is the cutoff) will have to dock in space and take a taxi to the surface.

The flight looks good, definitely not where they want it, but it's heading in the right direction. Without actually flying a ship in atmo, it's hard to really get a feel from the video.
