All VR games require this IMO.

they dont. Oculus only requires 3' in front of you and many of the games the play space is only about 3' squared. Reason I know this is because I live in an RV so space is very much an issue

So, I have to move my several hundred pound couch and coffee table to a different part of the room every time I want to use VR?. No thanks.

You're one person... who apparently is heavily vested in the success of VR head goggles. Best of luck though.

yeah I think the distance requirement for the camera on the Sony needs to be lower like it is for the Rift

But but, I heard 74% of gamers want VR!

However, you can't find said gamers on the interent (or real life) for whatever reason. They're a very difficult 74% to track down. It seems like such a huge majority should be easy to bump into but they're not here on mmorpg.com, not the verge, not on wired, not on ars technica, not on IGN, not on Kotaku, not on PC gamer, I dunno - I participate in lots of communities but I can't for the life of me find all these VR lovers. Maybe they're on the Oculus Rift forums or something.

By the way, VR games up to 80% off on Steam for all you 74% of gamers out there!

oh I have, just not on MMORPG.

Every single person here at work who is a gamer wants a headset and is planning to buy one

I would love to have a Vive, but the pricetag of both the Vive and the computer to run it is just too much for me right now. I'll wait a few years until the price is down and the technology is more fleshed out. :)

if anyone though that PSVR would not run in to the same issues that Kinect had...

    Guess you know now. =P

Also i will put faith in to PSVR on the PS4 when i see a bone stock home unit running it without problems.

Until then.. call me very skeptic.

This have been a good conversation

@Rusque Hi, I'm a VR enthusiast.  Nice to meet you!

There's a pretty great thread regarding VR on Penny Arcade (you may have heard of them) here.

I am not really very hopeful on Sony VR being the leader here but who knows is might happen. The screen door effect is real and it can be anyoying and it can make it impossible to read text and out of the non-phone VR headsets this one has the lowest resolution and as a result the largest screen door effect.

regardless of that suspect they will do just fine.

Using that VR would be very healthy :)

I'm just being flippant, I know there's not just one (or two) people interested in VR - Sean's over the top love of VR makes me go a little bananas so I have to poke at him.

What is the minimum resolution required to negate the screen door effect?
It's not exact science. Currently with VR the better resolution the smaller screen door effect.

EDIT: It also depends on the space between pixels. So there are other factors to consider besides resolution.

yes that is true the DPI is important of which I would be shocked and floored if the Sony DPI is better than Oculus and HTC

DPI and resolution. what is it to 'negate it' rather than 'mitigate it'? I have no idea. But what I do know is from technical specs the Sony is the least of the three in more than one category (should we motivate me to find out all of the data points on that ?) so why people think its the best option is a mystery to me however I also dont give a fuck

I found his claim interesting since I know he's never seen through a PS VR so I figured he must know what the minimum resolution is.

For example the PSVR is 960x1080 @ 90 or 120 Hz, per eye. The Vive is 1080x1200 @ 90 Hz per eye. That's not an incredibly huge resolution difference.

edit: At the screen size and resolutions we're talking about the pixel density is not an issue.

Maybe these units will cause less motion sickness than the Rift or Vive since it has a higher refresh rate.
    Htz doesnt matter bro

    resolution and DPI.

are you trying to motovate me to post all known specs of the Sony VR and compare it to the Rift and Vive? DPI and all? is that what you want me to do ?

DPI DOES matter for screen door effect and we are not talking about fucking motion sickness. I think you do want me to whip out that technical specs here would doing so 'negate or mitigate the issue here?

Using Wii Fit is a pretty healthy thing to do too, but there's no way in hell I'd do it. I like the idea of VR, but the logistics of PS4's version seems a bit much.

So refresh rate doesn't matter for motion sickness at all? Maybe I misunderstood those repeated claims that low refresh rate from inferior headsets is the cause of motion sickness.

Since the resolution and density is nearly the same as Vive this is probably going to be an non-issue. PS DPI (density) is a non issue as well. You're not going to get a low pixel density in a high resolution small sized screen.
    a few question for you

    1. have you looked up 'screen door effect' yet?
    2. do you understand how 'screen door effect' is mitigated by higher resolution and better DPI?
    3. would you like me to post all the known specs about the Sony VR and why they are inferior to HTC and Rift in those technical specs or would you perfer to just drop this subject and move on?
