I wanted to separate posts since I feel the other will most likely get deleted or modded.
Spending 20k in one sitting for some Kickstarter game package for a game that isn't finished is silly. The jealously defense is dumb. The "do what makes you happy" defense is dumb. It is what it is. If a Saudi prince did it, it would still be dumb. It's the principle. Everybody is entitled to do whatever they want but lets not be on purpose dense. The scientology analogy is spot on, considering it's a faith based project. If there was ever a Devils Advocate sequel the main antagonist would be Chris Roberts like and the net for new followers a kickstarter game with backers and dedicated minions. If Star Citizen launched in 2017 and became the best game in the history of games... it wouldn't change the silliness.
Like I said and it got lost in the rabble is the guys spending this type of money arent doing it to be happy, and most dont even do it to actually play the game some day. They happened to dig up 3 seemingly 'legit' guys out of how many? Then they made a story around them.
The vast majority of these so called super backers are guys who bought ships and one time (supposedly but we now see not true) opportunity to buy 'special' ships. For the SOLE purpose of selling them to people later on (for a profit of course).
I think some did get some money out of it but I also think these guys are now simply getting refunds and not trying to hold on. A few might still be but I suspect many are looking for the eject button. That would be a much more interesting story and would probably help shed some more realistic light on the mentality of the guys who allegedly have spent high 5 and some six figures on this project.
Anyone claiming jealousy is way out there, thats like watching "American Greed" or looking at a list of Madoff's victims and being jealous of them.
The most enthusiastic fans can become the worst and hate what they previously loved. If you do not treat them like special snowflakes they might turn their back on you.
Such people try to fill a part of their emptiness. Obsessive behavior. Women buy shoes... men buy digital assets.
Not saying that every backer 500$+ is affected by it. I guess most of them are just people craving for THE space sim rpg mmo vr everything experience. Nothing wrong about that.
But if you have ulterior motives (having the feeling of influence over others/something, trying to steer the project into a specific direction, deriving a benefit from it) you should back out and rethink your priorities.
If you want control of some sort... start with the control over yourself!
It´s late... I need to sleep. Good fight, good night!
Everything I read on both sides of this game is just amazing. One topic I haven't seen about the game how much after 4 years on one side and 5 years on other how much should someone like Roberts have made in salary?
Sometimes it's not always about what you can see or hear but what's under the hood of a game that's most impressive. Between those thousands and thousands of lines of code, magic happens. Sometimes the most amazing feats of gaming wizardry happen without you even noticing.

I am sure that Roberts' salary is commensurate with his ego. Sandi's would be similar too. Wasn't Erin Roberts salary reported as $290,000? So head up from that.
If you are holding out for the perfect game, the only game you play will be the waiting one.
