For the MMORPG-burnt out people. What do you do?

Hey folks,

I've been feeling VERY burnt out lately. Lately being the past year or som sadly. I've been meaning to share my thoughts with likewise minded people. I keep chasing the original MMORPG high, but it's a vicious circle.

How do you deal with this? Do you jump through mmorpgs? I would do that, but I feel like I'm wasting time, while the perfect mmorpg is waiting out there. I know, sounds sad, lol.

What I do:

Guild Wars 2: Since I'm a semi-vet in this game, I seldom fire it up and do PvP or build something or spend gold on gem shop and hoard more cosmetic stuff. Don't seem to care about any new content tho. Sad :(

FFXIV: I've recently made a post about it. I login, do roulette, MAYBE do one story/job quest. Can't seem to push through more. Logout.

ESO: Would be a good game. But the dungeon queue for DPS is insane. Also the game feels a bit empty. Do 1 or 2 quests. Logout.

I was thinking: should I go with WoW? But then I think: you know, it's too old. Plus it's very mainstream and has got too much content to catch up on.

Then I scroll endlessly through Game List. Tera? Nah, new, better stuff's coming out. RIFT? Ah man, perfect MMORPG... until Trion fucking spat on the playerbase with their PAY TO HAVE FUN. Yeah, I miss RIFT dearly.

Should just probably go through single-players games like ploughin' Witchah 3. Yeah, that game's good. Many other games around as well. Until... the perfect MMORPG comes out? Is it going to be Crowfall? Project Gorgon? CoE? *insert other upcoming mmorpg name here*? Ah, sometimes it's tiring to think about all this.

I play games from many different genres, not just MMORPGs. When I got bored, I move on to one I haven't played in a while.

Of course you can focus your life on something other than games for a while.  If you are burned out on games, stop playing them for a few months or a year or three.

I know exactly where you're coming from. I've found the only thing that works for me is to just cold turkey the MMO's and go play some single player games, read a good book or 3, play some FPS and shoot people in the face for the lolz, anything really as long as it's not an MMO.

Sometimes going back to an old favourite can do the trick but I usually find it best to just drop them for a while. Give it 6 months and then come back and look at the genre with an open mind again.

I've been playing World of Warships a fair bit... and I have backed Crowfall and Camelot Unchained. Other than that, not much - waiting for the fall semester to start and for a pending cross-country move in 12 days. Really, there's nothing I can do. The games that are currently available either suck, or I have no desire to see more of them (Warcraft). The only rational thing to do is wait.

    "The Wait". So it continues.

i´m burnt out of MMORPGS too, none can hold my attention anymore... Not even the new Guild Wars 2 Season 3 update did :(

I love gaming though so i went back to singleplayer games mostly or just some multiplayer action...
At the moment i am playing Doom4, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Crysis 3, Star Wars Battlefront and planning on getting into No man´s Sky as soon as it launches on the 12th!

There is plenty of (gaming) life outside the MMO genre ;)

So.... All new mmorpgs are designed for people NOT to invest time into them. They are Designed so people can log in for 15-30 mins do a few things that amuse them then log off. which really nullifies any investment you think you have in a game.

That's part of the reason games these days lose there appeal (atleast for me) because for the longest time it was "investing time into a game" and get a return of a better character ect which is not the case anymore.

So, You have to make a choice: Have a change of thinking and accept that game progression is trivial and it doesn't matter what games you play or how much time you waste on them anyway.  Or switch genres, play single player games or go out and enjoy life.

I play coc on my ipad since 1,5 years

tried out black desert but doesnt kept my interest. Archeage neither. Always something missing. Looking forward to new games like CoE or Age of Wushu 2.

what i miss is the natural socialicing and communicating while doing stuff together. And i am not that into the action style combat black desert or ESO is doing.

When you are that burnout you need some time off MMOs altogether. Either try another genre or stay away from computer games 3-6 months (pen and paper roleplaying & boardgames might be a good substitute).

Right now nothing will be fun for more then a few weeks at best, most of us been there a few times. Just walk away for a while, you will know when it is time to go back again.

I don't play MMOs atm, and don't plan to until something worth playing (to me) comes along.  One of the bigger mistakes I've made with my time over the years is trying to recapture what I love about MMOs in MMOs that I was pretty sure wouldn't be for me.  My advice is to be patient and find other ways to invest your gaming time until something that really resonates with you comes out.

For gaming I play Dota 2 with friends (social) and single player games if I want to game otherwise.  Currently I'm replaying FF7 for the umpteenth time.  I have recently played/dabbled with Witcher 3, Wasteland 2, Divinity Original Sin.  I may occasionally boot up GW2 or Marvel Heroes for other semi-social gameplay if I'm extra bored, which is basically never with my current work schedule.

Outside of gaming I watch anime and paint miniatures for entertainment.  It's actually quite amazing how much time you have to do things in life when you don't have an MMO consuming a huge amount of it.

MMORPG's are hardly the only genre.  I play dozens of other types of games, and currently I'm hooked like a crack addict on Overwatch.  Wait, what the hell am I doing posting?!? I could be playing! FFS, I'm outtie!

    I've done that since Everquest.  That is jump to different games.  I've discovered a few things;

    1.  The so called friends you have in your current game are only in it for their benefit.  Once you try another game & start to tell them about how great it is.... watch as they quickly drop off contact because you no longer benefit them.  I've realized this from playing EQ moving to DAOC... returned to EQ about a year later and found all these so called friends were too vested in the end game and didn't really give a damn that I came back.

Not surprisingly the people I'd helped as newbs who were now max level were the most helpful.  Random people I helped as a newb walked up saying "I remember you..."  and they'd give me gear or cash to help start up again.

    2.  Going to another MMO is pretty much eating the same cake with different icing.  In some cases the content might have slightly different features but they all boil down to the same thing.  Go here and kill X or deliver this to Y get exp and level up.  Theres been a few games where I regretted leaving my original for the next new thing.  These days I wait a few months for the hysteria to die down before jumping ship.  Then you start to see the real reviews pop up after people get into the gameplay.

    3.  After going hardcore in EQ for 4 years from vanilla til around Scars of Velious I called it quits from MMO's for around half a year.  EQ in particular required too much time to do anything.  After awhile I read more about DAOC and decided to try that.  Since that time I swore not to get too into MMO's anymore.  I play strictly casual and thats it.  I started one of the more successful guilds on my server in EQ and its still going.  I've ran into people in other MMO's who bug me to start up guilds and I always refuse.  The end game has nothing for me now.  I really liked Guildwars 2 where originally there was no progression once you hit 80.  Merely cosmetic differences.

    4.  I've been more into console gaming lately.  Quickly turn and off whatever interests me.  I did play ESO on XB1 for a time but even that game while interesting has far too much progression.  Take the time to level up to 50 and then you're redoing content to earn champion points.  Don't research your build too much and you'll end up broke, badly built character with wrong gear and stats without the ability to afford respec'n.

I am breaking from LOTRO atm.  While I really love LOTRO.  I get burnt out playing the same game over  long periods of time.  As of right now.  I am playing non PC mmo's. Console seems more fun for me right now.  So playing ESO and Neverwinter on my console.  On PC playing Grim Dawn, Hearthstone and HOTS.  I also am playing Stronghold Kingdoms on my PC,Tab and droid.  Just finished a run in World of Tanks.  Have 2 tank lines above tier VII which makes me very happy!

Also am happy I got my first big time EPIC from strictly PVPing in ESO!  That made my day!  Even though the character that received it really does not use it.  I have another character that would love it!!

Keep myself busy!  So many games too little of time to play them all.

If you can no longer get into MMOs (or enjoy whatever it is you do for entertainment) it usually means one of your most basic needs isn't being met.

I am currently only playing one MMO. EQ2. And only the housing because I find it creative and calming. With all the medical difficulties I've been having lately, it's been nice.  All the other MMO's are a joke. They offer nothing but theme park story lines or PvP. And I'm sick of it. I've been playing single player rpg's like The Witcher 3. Heck, at this point even replaying lego Harry Potter is more fun than the MMO's and offers more innovation. I'd call that scary.

A fews ago I decided to stop playing "MMORPGs" for what they have become and retreated to EVE until something of real interest comes along.

I just don't play mmorpgs. I think I have grown tired with the whole genre.

So I play other genres. Games I've loved and played recently - witcher 3, fallout 4, rise of the tomb raider, uncharted 4, ratchet and clank, battlefront, halo 5...

i am currently playing through dooms single player campaign. The only way I can describe it as is pure fun. Something I can't say about any MMORPG.

When I was away from mmos I just played various multiplayer games like Borderlands entire series, battlefront, marvel heroes etc. but right now I'm actually playing WoW on and off.
The acronym MMORPG use to mean Massive Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game.

But the acronym MMMORPG now currently means Microscopic Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game. Kappa.

    Echo Of Soul

If it was not for that game I would not be playing any mmo. I am tired of solo fed ex questing so I love how I can level a character through Battlegrounds in Echo Of Soul.

Only games that I am hyped for are Age Of Wushu 2 and Dark And Light.
