I might pick this up. I was sort of interested in The Repopulation but never got around to trying it. This sounds like it has some potential to be fun.

I am not sure about this game its the 2nd try now under a new name...seems like the development cycle will never finish. I backed this a long time ago as Repopulation and it was horrid so they are in for round 2 as Fractured.. I really hope it makes some ground this time but I still don't understand the decision of after 2-3 years of development to scrap and redo everything under a different name.

I believe that they're still working on Repopulation. This is a separate thing to keep people busy in the meantime, and some of the gameplay from Fragmented may end up in The Repopulation. It's kind of like what Landmark was to EQ Next.

Owners of the Repopulation will receive Fragmented for free. And they will still of course receive The Repopulation when it launches. We realize the way events have played out over the past few months is hard on everyone. Fragmented gives us the opportunity to get something into the hands of our players quickly, while we build up the new code base.

My understanding has been that The Repopulation and Fragmented are different games and not redoing everything under a different name. The devs had a post on the Steam forums (for TheRepop) detailing this: http://steamcommunity.com/app/322300/discussions/0/451852225143944366/.

That said, I believe they will share assets and some mechanics, but that Fragmented was their "in the meantime, try this" while they worked on porting the MMO to the new engine (same engine Fragmented is using).

They are working on the repop, they are however scrapping the repop and redoing it because they have to make the game on a new engine, hero engine was no longer supported. Fragmented is just a side project to keep people calm.

Still depressing news, instead of oh I dunno the Repopulation game being developed they are selling the side project for 5 bucks.
