Strange I go back to my account and my reaver is gone. He was level 15 I think. Sigh. The game really does have nice contents once you get passed everything else. You don't have to be in groups. The level cap for F2P is 30 and stat gain at 15, but honestly it doesn't bother me if F2P has limits. Why shold I get it for free? In all the F2p MMO's I've tried they all have caps or limits of some sort. I don't expect otherwise.

Was looking at the character lookup on the alganon library window. From what I remember my chars never showed up there. I always loved looking up players on eqplayers for Everquest, so it's sad if that feature doesn't work.

So are there any other MMO's which resemble old school WoW? I don't mean clones of modern WoW or "old school" only in name, I mean for real.

Or is that only with WoW classic emulators?

Rift, SWTOR and FFXIV are all very WoWish. If you're looking for vanilla, I don't think that specific version of MMORPG is available. You can get 2007-8 WoW through Rift (plus some things that make the old forumula a bit better), but the 2004-5 WoW is too grindy for people these days I think.

Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it is bad.

Honestly i wouldn't touch this game for the simple fact that it has Derek Smarts name attached to it, and i have no respect for the type of person he comes across as.

All i have seen from him is taking control of someone else work to claim credit for being involved and banning/slandering anybody who criticizes him or his work on any medium he thinks he can get some form of control on. This even when they have valid issues with his product.

He really needs to stop criticizing every body else and their work and just get one with what he does, his list of achievements is lackluster, and just claiming being an Indy developer doesn't take away from the fact that he is as bad as the people he criticizes.

    Just my 2 cents worth.

Yes it is very much a Wow clone. It is more so an ok game if released back in around 2000-2002 but after that my fave game FFXI came out and blows it's doors off and of course Wow is just a better version of.

IMO the best Wow clone was Runes of Magic just because it does more than Wow.ROM is actually a f2p game but like most ,your not achieving a whole lot without spending in the cash shop. However in saying that,IF you had a bunch of friends you could group together with, you could play most all content totally for free. The exception would be some very hard instances. The other part missed would be guild battles, you actually have guild halls where you can attack other guilds but the game lacks players to fulfill this aspect.

If there was one game i would love to see updated to 2017 with no cash shop,it would be Runes of Magic.

Despite the urge to play the role I have to say no. I'm just another poster like you.

So Runes of Magic is the best runnerup for old school WoW?

Thanks everybody for posting. Wish I could post in the actual forum for this game but unsurprisingly I don't think the mods there are friendly.

A lot of reviewers say that ASTA has an old-school WoW feel to it. Never played it myself so I can't say for sure. It just had a re-launch on Steam http://store.steampowered.com/app/612290/ASTA_Online/

David Allen ran this? There same David Allen from horizons?

Yes he is the same David Allen that originally developed Horizons (now Istaria: Chronicles of the Gifted). His original vision for Horizons was huge in scope, but never achieved the ambitious status he wanted.

After he was pushed out of that creation, he then began Alganon, which he also lost. Both tragic tales are well documented if one desires to read them.

I was in Beta for both games and played up till both were taken over from David. I found Horizons to be more fun, more class diversity, good crafting and everything was player made when I left. Also you could play a dragon for goodness sake. However, from recollection, the early drops were just shards used in crafting; no gear or other interesting items.  I believe now mobs drop resources, formulae, trophies, and gems, so more diversity there.

Events were fun when launched. i recall one where we had to dig out a race and another where players were poisoned or sick with a communicable disease that kept getting passed on to other players. We players had to piece together a cure and eventually, we wiped out the spawning problem. Quite the unique quest line there.

    Edit:

With regard to what I considered a very close WoW clone, I thought Allods Online fit the bill to a tee. Since I last played, they have restructured the cash shop, lowered the death costs and expanded the races and graphics considerably. Worth a look imho.

There were two David's with horizons. The first was huge in scope and very short on actual development. He was pushed out by the second David that was much shorter in scope but actually got things produced only turned out to be a liar about many things and the game was also laggy bug filled mess. He eventually lost his job as well

One was David Allen. The other was David Bowman.  I don't remember which David was in which part.

Edit - I still play istaria from time to time. We had to dig out the satyrs and rescue the dryads
