Special Program for those of us who didn't play for 3 months and lost everything!

(Would be nice if this info was posted on the news for mmorpg.com)

Alot of us jump around from mmorpg to mmorpg, and end up comming back to our old favourites. All these games say that you have like 90 days before you could lose your characters. But most of use figure that is just for them to cover their asses incase they lose the data.

Square is the only game company I've ran into that actually means this. I've stopped playing UO, came back 2 years later and everything was where I left it. Lost nothing. SWG I stopped playing for 1 and a half years... came back and actually had more stuff then when I left. (vet rewards and such) There have been many other games I've left for months, and had my characters where I left them when I logged back on.

None of these places charged for this either.

Most of us figured FFXI would be the same... wrong. Was basically told I had to buy a new copy of the game and start over from scratch. FFXI, out of all the games I played, took the most work to get my character to where he was. The thought of starting over from lvl 1... doing the dunes over several times(different jobs)... and getting back all my fame in the different cities wasn't comforting to say the least heh.

FFXI has a new program where they will restore all your old characters.(even ones from over a year ago!)

But you have to act fast... it started on July 7th and ends on the 14th. (or 13th, you might want to check)

I trashed everything I had that was FFXI, except the mouse pad and CD's. I didn't have any of my old info.. registration codes, Playonline ID, etc.

I used their online webchat thing to talk to customer service, and they gave me my PlayOnline ID, filled out my Return to Vana'diel form, and restored my characters while I was chatting with them.

There is a $12.95 charge for this, which sucks but its better then nothing. ($1 per addition character as well) Its too bad this is only a short campaign, and not something permanent. Their policy on the 3 month thing really sucks.
