Site Shut Down, Fate of the Game Unknown

Firefall News - The Firefall site has suddenly gone dark, perhaps indicating that the game itself has shut down. Players on Reddit are claiming that they game is still functioning with a few players in it. While perhaps not yet completely gone, the site's demise does not bode well for the longevity of the game.

Firefall was this game during the alpha and beta phases when it had something compelling to offer. Sure, it needed a lot more content, but it was a unique experience.

This dying thing is better called Fireflop. It uselessly flails around in every direction, changing its identity with every major patch. Its death was inevitable and sad. An "I told you so," is only so satisfying.

I can't help but feel bad for this game, considering there's like nothing else like it on the market (open world shooter, not these current instanced ones like warframe and the division)

I hope Ember turns out what this game could have been.

oh wow- i just logged on last night! was looking on my account for my mp3 tracks for the soundtrack!= didnt see them, glad i eventually found my back up!

@APThug there's at least Vendetta Online: not sure if you would consider it a "shooter", but it is generally first-person, there is shooting, and it is open world (non-instanced).



There are probably others as well.  I'm always leery when someone claims "nothing else[...] on the market".

It was a good game in version .6 and .7. Ember now rises from Firefall's ashes.

The game was as its best back in beta. it was playable after release and still playable as of patch 1.3. But the two last patches 1.6 and 1.7 simply sucked out what little life and spirit was still there. Cannot even say I am sad to see it go.

In the end Brundlefly had just had to die...

They made their hidden agenda pretty clear in a recent forum post before the Forum went down that they're only interested in the Game's Assets at this point for a Mobile division "Flip" and also to probably try a Lawsuit against this Spinoff company: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCdW3l3tlPuUed_DmNkJadCw .... (yes, that's freakin Mark Kern again ... no I'm not exactly pleased by his position in their structure either).

so basically.... RIP Firefall even though it technically "died" in December 2015. It's never coming back and if you want to play the successor to its Beta Version (aka: the GOOD VERSION) ...then go google this Ember project instead and see if you agree with its rather unusual and newish Crowdfunding method

Mark Kern is going to convert it into the WoW legacy server campaign bus since that's all he has to do with him time after he got booted out of Red5, the studio he founded. Another failed game brought to us by the former wow developer crowd. RIP. Next up...Wildstar.

You can say what your want about Mark, but he was on to something really good. They can try to sue him but Ember is not Firefall.

You cant rely on these backyard companies.

I mean, the Red5 studios didnt even bother to let people know it was going to shutdown. They simply vanished...

No wonder the game sunk with this sort of mismanagement and lack of respect for players.

For me, the game was dead when they converted to levels and my only weapons were either 10 levels higher than I could use or a newbie weapon.

The www.firefall.com website is still intermittently available. Many times when you click a link you'll get an error but they do work. The forum there is also still available. Sometimes.

The update server is apparently offline.

You are right, that's what I get searching for Firefall on steam. Not even a closing announcement, just poof gone.

I played it a while ago and just couldn't get into it.  It seemed like a running simulator with little variety on missions.  I told myself to go back after a while, because I figured they would be adding content, but just forgot about it, honestly.  Wonder if they did ever improve the content.

Now we get to watch Mark Kern clumbsily flail about with Ember.

All jokes aside I hope Grummz makes it happen, the concept of what Firefall was IN THE BEGINNING is what attracted me to the game. He has everything to lose. He screws up Ember he has -credibility left.
