Aside from the Star Wars Galaxies emulator, which I am waiting for the team to finish to fully check out, there’s been only one private server that’s gotten me to bother to install and play on and that is Warhammer Online: Return of Reckoning.

i returned to this gem! and was a bit of a hastle downloading the game in multiple links( not sure if that has changed) but was worth it once i got it working.
the live events and some quests early on was a bit of confusion-but if you are familiar with the game it is fun! player base ingame are very helpful and friendly.
this mmo was gone too soon. but total wars-warhammer (currently out on CA) has made its retribution with a vengeance!
def both games worth checking out! yes this mmo is on a private server. but total war-warhammer is legit and amazing!!!
Sure it is very well made and managed for a "pirate" server (to be read here in the same vein as pirate stations on the old radio) can be expected. But that is also the problem, the game was kind of borked to begin with and this only accents it. Sure if you REALLY loved it you can look past all that. Me... No... To do that i would need some extra sugar on top...
I have tried it and i will leave WAR a good memory of a time gone by, much like SWG and UO.
This have been a good conversation
yah i think we got that from your first post.
that said, perhaps it was greenlight since nobody owns its ip any longer (EA) - or its just a good read- after all its warhammer damit!
Thus "why you should" be playing RoR
You can talk about emulators for games that are no longer running.
For games that are still running, it is still not allowed.

Always chasing that AAO.
Love it.
Alright, thanks for clarifying that for me. I wasn't sure. I might give it a go then. That SWG one is safe to talk about too yea?
As noted in article how much of the "pve" content Land of Dead and public quests are there non functioning atm?

LoTD will not be patched for another 2 weeks. I believe all the Order public quests have been patched in, but I'm not too sure. I'm too busy killing greenskins and dark elves to quest.
yah t1 t2 zones where good when i was playing it- they were working on t3 and bug fixes in lower tiers= not sure how much they have improved. many quests are not active as the article stated. would be nice to see this games revival in this form - dont think the mmo players where ready for somethign as great as this mmo back in the day.
Private server owners can see all usernames/emails and passwords in plain text straight from the sql database. (it has to be plain text to login). Most owners are Russians, or hosting the servers in Russia to avoid all legal action. If a private server were to get hacked or a rogue administrator decided to sell the database, you're fucked. They don't have the same security as an official server and don't have to abide by any data storage regulations. oh and don't forget the Clients are modified to connect to their server that can auto update and install ANYTHING on your pc.

Firstly, Gorwe's post is bitterness over his being banned for making a series of extremely inflammatory, rage-filled and entitled posts in the midst of a complete tantrum meltdown over our lack of focus on PvE, and it should be disregarded. His posts can easily be found via our forums. We post our bans publicly, along with the reasons for them.
Secondly for Veexer_Nui: No, we can't see your passwords in plain text. Like any reputable server, we hash your passwords. We are also not hosted in Russia and I assure you that we are just as beholden to relevant data regulations as anyone else is.
We also don't use a modified client.
Well a bit of background from my understanding. They were getting hit by ddos attacks for a while. Then they decided to replace their server with a much better one and were down for three weeks due to that. So they had a rough couple of months. As a result of a long break due to those two events, they went from having around 1500 players at peak times down to 700. Now that legion is out, it might drop even lower.
Not to mention, they keep changing the rules/settings on the system. When tier 4 was added, it became extremely hard to take down keeps without a significant imbalance. RR points were much tougher to get. When you consider they upped the cap to 40/80 making RR harder to get was painful. People complained about it. They chased people out of T4 due to that and many people quit or just queued up for scenarios. The more people queued up for scenarios left less people out to play world pvp.
What they need to do is get the word out. Look like they somehow got mmorpg.com to do this for them.
Play it if you want, just set your expectations to low.
