I think Youtube has been fantastic at generating a new generation of fans for competitive gaming. Used to be no one would watch you play baseball. Now it's a sport which I hear has people paying money to watch it. Same is happening now with competitive gaming.

Yeah west is pretty far behind eastern countries in the whole e-sport thing, but it's growing. Some schools are offering full rides for League of Legends players now. Sounds good to me. I'd rather see my kid pay his way through school playing video games than playing a sport where they will mostly likely end up with concussions or other injuries that can cripple them for life while the school rakes in billions.

Now if I could only get my kid to grow up and be a PC gamer instead of a console peasant, he could get a decent education. You can't get an education playing Call of Duty kids. Be smart, stay in PC gaming.

This is certainly interesting and I'm glad to see gaming start to make an impact within academic circles. I'm not sure I agree with scholarships for eSports players (I dont agree with any other sports scholarships either) but as long as the scholarships are paid for with private money then its OK.

However, I still don't understand the appeal of watching other people play sports, real or electronic. I don't watch football, rugby, cricket, athletics or anything else for that matter. Only sport I come close to following is F1 but even with that I often end up bored and generally just have it on in the background whilst I'm doing something else.

I like watching highlights for racing. They always show the crashes. Indy racing in particular is quite spectacular in their crashes. It's like F1 with somewhat slower vehicles and 4 times as many competitors. It's like the difference between the NFL and NCAA.

Back in my day, the 80's.  My jaw droped when two high school friends told me they got full scholarships to university for Bull Riding, and Bowling.  eSports at UCI is the same thing as a university Bull Riding, and Bowling teams.

Boy: Why can't I talk to Him?
Mom: We don't talk to Priests.
As if it could exist, without being payed for.
F2P means you get what you paid for. Pay nothing, get nothing.
    Even telemarketers wouldn't think that.
It costs money to play.  Therefore P2W.
