Horizons Isnt that bad!

I have never tried horizons untill today - in fact i heard so many bad things about the game, that i never even bothered to try it. but yesterday i said why not, downloaded the client and i logged in for the first time today.
The graphics are surprisingly refreshing, the interface seems sturdy and the char creation is interesting... (characters actually have interesting faces!) and you can be a pixie, or a dragon!
So my question is; those who have played it and dissed the game - what is wrong with horizons? why does it have this bad a rep?
im just curious.

I liked it back at release, low populations made me quit though!

horizons reminds me of asherons call 2... same type of graphics, but a little better
I also heard the crafting in horizons is next to none?

This game had GREAT crafting...the problem was there wasnt nothing more to it
"Second to none" equates to "one of the best."
"Next to none" means precisely that, just about nothing.
HEHE yeah he meant second to none, and its true. The crafting system is the best I have ever seen. Although I'm not a craftoholic by any stretch of the imagination, its not tedious at all.
I'm just starting out but I can't wait to fight some of the monsters I saw in the video happened upon, some huge ass ogre dude with a scythe for one arm is a memorable one.
It has the best community you could hope for: any new player will get a lot of help starting out and probably have a full set of armor made for them without even asking. It isn't a perfect game, but it doesn't deserve its bad rep. Most of those people haven't tried it in a long time. I love the game, its different than the usual thats out right now. I understand it's not for everyone, but for me it was a refreshing change and a cure for my MMORPG malaise.
the crafting engine seems VERY fun, Iv'e long awaited for a game i can craft, Roma Victor is it, but that doesnt release for some 2 months, so ill play this for the 7 days.

The problems with Horizons aren't apparent till you've been playing about a month. It takes about that long to realize that all you'll ever do is craft... craft some more... go kill some creatures to get more components to craft with... then craft some more.
If you DONT craft you will
Never have money
Nevery have equipment because you wn't be able to afford the gear that crafters sell
Now: That information is old. I haven't played Horizons in a long time. But, unless they've made some dramatic changes it's probably still accurate.
The game, when I played, had no loot for players to find whatsoever. The only thing to do was get resources and craft and craft and craft and craft. Getting resources was actually very well done but it was a massive time investment.
The game isn't BAD it just had/has no depth to it. It may be better now, I heard they've been steadily working on it but I'm not gonna go back.

Every game doesn't have to be hardcore PvP to not be crap bro. And this game has tons of heart, I would think you of all people would be on the side of this underdog. Just imagine if someone said the same of Roma Victor. That was just a stupid thing to post, but I'll chock it up to "bad days and good".
We don't have to agree on everything, but you would think someone in your position (I know you were only a guest writer for MMORPG.com) would have something intelligent or objective to add instead of sounding like a 12 year old troll. Sorry, its just a little disheartening hearing it coming from someone I had respect for.
It is funny to watch the community board over at HZ. A few are so happy David Bowman has finally made it into the top ten posting. Yet he has only 5 posts last I looked. Sort of tells you how they see things over there.
Also Amon is on vacation and Manga is sick so a lot of the development has come to a stop. I wonder how many can go on vacation or be sick in other games and work comes to a stop?

I played the Horizons trial at the beginning of this year or at the end of last year some time. The main thing that turned me off was the engine lag. The game would randomly speed up and slow down.

hahaha, yeah well.... horizons brings out the jaded side in me about the game game the developers. I dont know if you ever read the whole story about what happened or not.
Basically horizons was to be THE mmorpg, similar to how Darkfall wants to be but even on more of a grand scale, after years of development one of the mofos fixed it so that the head developer and the guy who basically thought up and created horizons, got fired from his own company.
from then on it was months and months of silence, and the forums were taken down, the developers treated us like crap. When they re-emerged they had the pos EQ game thats for sale now. Thankfully I hear its about to be shut down, and I'm glad.

Oh I understand now Ferox. I too hold a grudge against a game, Lineage 2. Botting griefing farmers: all those things killed it.
But Horizons is just such a good spirited game. And whatever its problems were, they are gone now. All thats left is the game, and its reservedly wonderful. Its no WoW killer to be sure, but I cant bring myself to play WoW anymore and Horizons I can. So much to do and so many nice people to talk to there. The community is tops in any game I've played.
To criticize I can understand, to berate too. But to go so far as to wish a game company goes under? To wish for people to lose their jobs?
That, my friend, kinda sucks.

Oh, quit acting like you got screwed over. Pretty much every MMO with a free trial that normally has a monthly fee requires a card for the trial.
