The whole reason they are releasing this is because a significant chunk of the player base said that they would think twice before buying the next expansion because legendary armor was a selling point feature of HoT and they were backing out of it.
Some of it looked nice but all the spikes and pointy bits had no place on that armor.. And where were they retracting too? The only part that looks good some a bit on the shoulders and the helmet face. Other than that it made no sense at all.
Agreed besides it looks kinda stupid.
Brenics ~ Just to point out I do believe Chris Roberts is going down as the man who cheated backers and took down crowdfunding for gaming.
I think that the idea is really great, but I think the implementation in this video is over the top and ridiculous.
How about instead of full plate armor that springs out a bunch of pointless and ridiculous... things, it is half plate armor that expands to cover your unprotected areas. Maybe magical leather armor with really great looking designs and inlays on it, but in combat it grows metal studs and links all over it to provide additional protection. Looks cool out of combat and becomes more practical in combat.
Instead of a helmet with a face plate that closes, have a metal band around the head, or a collar around the neck that a helmet grows out of so that characters can see their faces during cut scenes and other closeups, but have a helmet in combat.

Practice doesn't make perfect, practice makes permanent.

After all, Guild Wars 2 is the true Fashion Wars 2, it's all about how shiny it looks.
No Shiny? No Deal.
