I'll be downloading it this evening. Will follow-up with my info here though I'd classify myself as a beginner. ;-)

please post a review here. I would love to hear some feedback from other sites other than steam.

Biggest differences between it and Civ V in your opinion or things that they improved on?  I've not followed it much. Actually my PC was sitting in the garage for a few months.

Some things are a lot better...

The city management is great now. You place districts that you upgrade stuff like libraries in. Wonders take up a hexagon now. A huge upgrade that makes things a lot more fun.

Designing your own religion is fun as well, but I don't get why they put such a tight limit on how many you can add.

The leaders and civs are handled in a good way with interesting advantages and special units.

The Eureka function takes half of your research if you complete specific goals.

But then some things are bad as well....

The tech tree is the smallest I seen in any CIV game. Far too short and many units are obsolete before you can use them much even at the slowest gamespeed. We need more techs, not less.

The gamesetup options are really limited.

The spread of religion is annoying, AIs tend to spawn loads of missionaries and a town can change religion several times a turn.

The AIs are annoyingly stupid (this might be a bug that can be patched in later though).

It is a good game but those bad points stop it from being a great one. The best CIV gameplay is still the CIV 4 mod Cavam2Cosmos. But they are certainly on to something with the cityplanning.

Tech tree is split between civics and techs - maybe thats why you feel is shorter? Im playing short campaign, currently renneisance era and don't feel like obsolete units are a problem.

Agree that AI is having trouble. They put a nice front covered with units around my capital but after declaration of war decided to backtrack and protect their towns.

Overall excellent ideas that need polishing and it will be a beauty.

    Sean Bean voiceover = awesome!

That is true, the civics doesn't help but even without I still feel you research far fewer units the earlier.

Take knights, you basically just need animal husbandry, horseback riding and stirrup to get them.

Lol, in my last game Brazil spent 100 turns with a settler running around me and my buddies towns without using it until finally we got annoyed on him and killed it (and him).

As for Sean Bean, he is generally fine (but not Spock). Some of the lines are a bit too cheesy though.

I would give it 4/5 or maybe slight below but it could so easily been a 5/5 if they just fixed the small annoying problems.

Right now I think it needs an expansion to truly shine, something that buff up the tech, makes a good world generator and add more units.

Thanks.  Pc being in the garage I missed out on a few releases that I would have otherwise been interested in.

I will write a full review later, need more gameplay for that (I just have 16 hours so far, not nearly enough for a CIV game).

If you love 4X game it is not a bad purchase, but I still feel that it isn't the best CIV ever. It could become though, the whole district thing was something I originally was unsure about but now I just wonder why they didn't implement way earlier, that feature in itself makes the game a great upgrade from CIV5.

Still, if you love the research part you should try out Cavemen2Cosmos (a free mod for CIV4:BTS). IF they would translate that mod to CIV6 we would get the perfect CIV. :D

    Don't forget the deal/trade exploit.

You offer 10 gold and the leader refuses... You asks what would make it work and he firmly says "2 and no more or less".

Also, I found a way to exploit it to a point I pay 1 single gold piece (in one time payment, not per turn) for anything, including unique artifacts and luxury - even if the leader only has 1 of them.

Many things on the game are clearly broken atm, hope a patch comes soon.

    Also...

"Your trader, Jahid, found out Russia pillaged one farm using a submarine".

    Jahid is crazy.
Another favorite is when a trader report:  "The Germans are trading with the French"...I know that since I play the French and you are reporting about yourself to me, dumb@ss.

But stuff like that isn't a biggie since it is easy to patch in, the stupid AI (with troops and planning) is far harder to fix.

I don't like how you can't get rid of cities. You might place a settlement 1 tile too close. Too late it's there to stay forever and ever.
