I charged back every dime I spent on BDO and gladly took the ban. The problem wasn't so much pay to win as them backtracking on every single thing they said pre-release. I would make a list but anyone that played the game already knows.
I don't see how twitch views mean anything either. MMORPG's are not much fun to watch and generally don't get much interest in twitch post release. They get a bump when new expansions come out, but that's about it. The only MMORPG that has a consistent viewership on Twitch is WoW mostly because of the raids and arenas. Twitch is where people go to watch e-sports or check out new games and is not a very good indication on how well a game is doing.
The game isnt my cup of tea but I dont want it to fail, especially since so much time and effort was put into it. As long as people are enjoying it, good for them.
If all it took to be a successful MMO was 2000 twitch viewers... There are more people watching Half Life 1 right now.
I came to be impressed by proof, this is not proof. It's also not proof that the game is failing so hey, might as well take that little victory instead of posting troll bait.

Awesome,
Both sides are happy.
I doubt it. Visa hits you with a nasty fee when you get hit with chargebacks. This is why games try to tell you that you can't do it, or that it won't work. They want to stop you from trying so they don't have to deal with it or pay those fees. I never used to do stuff like that, but with BDO, I made an exception and did the paperwork to get my money back. BDO is a great game run by a completely dishonest and garbage company.

Half Life is one of the most succesful games in history. Some even say its the greatest game ever made.

What would really impress me is publishing the number of concurrent players online.
I would too but this is a metric that mmo companys do not post anymore.
You play Eve right?
Do they post these numbers?
Yeah, one of the few that posts the number of accounts logged in at any given time, but it doesn't tell how many actual players it represents. (we joke it might be only 1000 or so.)

Nothing against BDO but you are comparing it to games that have been out for years.
I am only showing that Black Desert Online is doing very well.
Black Desert is a unknown mmo from Korea that has been ported over to the West and is doing better here than anything in the West other than WoW.
Lets not forget that Black Desert is also in Korea and Russia.
People said it was dead in Korea so it would fail here. / Wrong
People said it was Pay To Win and that would destroy the game. / Wrong
People said everybody has left the game. / Wrong
Black Desert is simply one of the best mmos out and is still one of the most played. It is a success no matter how people do not want to see it as one.
The game has proved people wrong and continues to do so.
"People said it was dead in Korea so it would fail here. / Wrong"
Can you link comparison of actual vs. budgeted profit for the western release? Or did you use some other basis for claiming that the game is succeeding in the west. If so, what basis did you use?
I want to tell you what really impressed me about Daum / Kakao.
When everybody was saying Pay To Win they simply stood up and said if you do not like it then leave.
If anybody does a charge back then you will be banned.
The reason this game is a success is because they stuck to what THEY believed in and did not bend to the vocal minority who will never be happy no matter what a company does.
Those same people now have their tails tucked, back to floating the forums with nothing to play while waiting on some already dated looking kickstarter project talking about how the genre is dead and how they miss vanilla.
Indeed - we all should be proud of Daum/Kakao for milking its customers dry in its F2P game by making it B2P, charging ludicrous amounts for costumes as if it were F2P...and then turning it into a P2W fest after the shine wore off and told its playerbase to F off if it didn't like it - truly a model game publisher! The ONLY thing that company does right is give some compensation when they screw up with something in game...which means they give out a LOT of free garbage because well, the game has a lot of issues on a regular basis.
I have to admit, i thought it would go F2P by now. I tried the 7 day guest pass, but the game just wasn't for me. I didn't like the combat or questing, among other things.
going strong? $9.99 now if u missed it but still not gonna play it
I think it was always pretty evident that BDO would start out as a B2P title and slowly make a move over to F2P plus perhaps a B2P version that includes some benefits.
It doesn't necessarily mean that less people are playing it, but only less new players are joining and the publisher is doing a move accordingly.
I'm not playing BDO myself, as i don't like various things about it...but i don't see why so many people are having a problem with a game going well.

Nice, I didn't realize it was only 10 bucks now. I'll certainly pick it up soon as that's what i've been waiting for. I'd also assume most of the launch drama is long done by now.

Yupp, the drama is probably gone now. The only big problem remaining is the region lock. I stopped playing shortly after launch because all my real life friends that play mmos with me live outside the US(in the caribbean) and they will not waste their money on BDO to risk getting banned for using VPN, so i ditched the game as well.
Currently at 987 viewers. That's fewer than Runescape.
Let's get some real metrics for threads like this shall we? These kinds of threads remind me of the old saying. Real 4x4 trucks don't need a decal on the side to say it.

In the meantime I will show you how everything came to be.

Do you not have anything more to show how well this game is doing other than a snapshot of Twitch viewers to a session stream?
I'm sure the game isn't going away anytime soon, but, how well is it really doing and how do you know?
Tiny fraction of those once playing remain. My guild went in 30 deep and dropped it for WoW of all things, a game haven't played since BC. Naturally I laughed at them and refused.

Uhhh. The game had plenty of hype in the west upon release.
And to say it's doing better than any other MMO not named WoW exemplifies that you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. GW2 and ESO are miles ahead in terms of success. What's the point is saying something so absurd?
We will very rarely see real metrics unless the developers are forced to name them due to fiscal laws for example. The last real metrics i am aware of are from april 2016. Daum reported $12M from sales in the first month and about 100k players online concurrently whis is not that bad.
Other statistics we don´t have. Twitch is imo not a very good indicator for subscriber estimations. Maybe interesting (but not for subscriber numbers) is google trends as this shows at least how much interest is around the web for BdO.
You can compare that yourself with anything you like of course.
I also think that BdO won´t go away anytime soon. Which is a good and a bad thing imo, good because i don´t like mmo´s to shut down, even when i don´t like them, it's at least variety to choose from. Bad because BdO is the best example how unreflected and soddened players are today and how they accept and even welcome to be shamelessly milked like a dairy cow. This signal to game development companies is horrible and i think in the future we will see such business models also from western game development companies even more than today.

BOOM! Goes the dynamite!
