It's not the classes. Threat-table AI is so stale it has actually died, returned as a Lich and then died again. It needs to be put out of its misery. Systems and design elements for all other game genres have been streamlined, iterated upon and evolved to keep things fresh and make them better. Imagine if the level design for Uncharted 4 was just the Pacman maze, in different colors. We're playing with the same simple enemy behavior we've had for the last decade and a half with no significant changes whatsoever.
It hits tanks harder because their entire job and play loop consists entirely of dealing with the enemy AI. DPS can focus on improving their play to put out the maximum possible damage. Healers can do whatever it is one does to enjoy healing. Tanks only deal with an AI that looks at a list of numbers and attacks the highest. It's been too long. It needs to be laid to rest.

I've always been a person that picks tanks first. Yet FFXIV was the first and only game where I didn't follow through. I had fun running dungeons with friends that I played previous games with but never really enjoyed tanking in PUGs. So since I didn't enjoy tanking I didn't enjoy ffxiv and quit.

I think the biggest reason is having to be the default leader when I'm not always in the mood to be the leader. If I am in the mood that's fine or if it's content I've done many times before it's fine but I can't stand being the newest person to a particular dungeon and have the expectation that I should magically know exactly what to do and where to go. (saying "go watch a video" has ruined MMOs for me too but that's a different discussion)  Who wants there leisure time hobby to be stressful?

I'm glad i'm reading other posters mentioning the issue is with the community and less so about tanking or the Tanks. I believe tanking is a skill set that needs to be developed. Anyone can do it if they are willing to learn. Maybe only a few will master the role.
In the end of the day, as a Healer with experience being a Tank, when a Dps party member tells our Tank to "hurry up" or "pull more mobs" I always tell the Tank not to rush the damn dungeon unless he knows what he/she is doing because i'm the one who has to work extra hard to keep everyone alive when things get messy. Which is fine but the chances of failure is greater and surely almost always results in everyone dying unless my healing game's on fleek.

It's easy finding another Dps party member but for some games, it's difficult finding a tank. So we need to support our Tanks as much as possible so they can develop that skill set and become superstars.

The real problem to be honest is that while Tanks are 100% in demand for dungeons, they are NOT for raiding. A guild may use two or three tanks max in a raid setting. This leaves very limited spots for Tanks to raid. No body likes to just do dungeons all day every day. They want to raid.

I love to Tank, but I love to raid. I have to DPS to be able to find a guild that doesn't already have their Tanking core.

FFXIV Dark Knight tank here, was an enjoyable job. Problem I faced in the end was dealing with randoms on a dungeon/trial I've never done. I HATE the fact that I'm required to go look up how to do dungeons prior to trying them. I want to play not practice for a test.

In my eyes the community is the problem. I stopped playing for this reason. I couldn't enjoy the game when I had two options A:Study for the dungeon or B:Get yelled at for not know it all.

You have to deal with that in almost every mmo out. I don't tank. I never have and never will. I have a lot of respect for tanks and if they want to pull one at a time, so be it. I venture into healing sometimes, but I prefer DPS. My experiences in XIV have been pretty good. Even with tanks just learning the groups I have been in have been patient and understanding. I play a summoner and sometimes when the tank is having a hard time, I will use my pet to take some of the pressure off so we can get though it without a wipe.

Support roles can be very demanding in XIV, but that can be said in almost every trinity based mmo. I see the community as the problem in most games and that isn't going to get better. In this age of impatient and the all about me gamers, it's just going to get worse.

I'm not an IT Specialist, Game Developer, or Clairvoyant in real life, but like others on here, I play one on the internet.

If they release the samurai, I will re sub in a heartbeat and main tank. The problem for me anyway, is that I really don't care for the current tanks available.
