>In Eternal Throne, players will get a chance to experience what it’s like to rule the galaxy.
Which makes literally no sense for non-force using base classes, and doesn't make much sense for Jedi either. Glad to see they're taking story seriously!
>Even your smallest choices may require more thought before responding.
Heard this multiple times before and thus far never had it matter. I still don't believe this claim in SWTOR.
>During our hands-on time we got a chance to check out some of Voss, a brand new planet that has drawn attention from the new galactic ruler, Vaylin.
Voss isn't a brand new planet, it's been in the game since launch. They may be adding more zones (but I wouldn't be surprised if they're just re-using the same map), but the planet already has a full storyline associated with it. And it wasn't terribly interesting.
>You’ll get to commandeer enemy vehicles and pilot a walker just like everyone’s favorite Wookie did on Endor
Ugh, vehicles. Gross. Glad they're copying yet another thing from WoW, though I wish it was something that WoW hadn't largely abandoned outside of some gimmick quests and such because it's not terribly popular. I mean, I guess the more iconic walkers might make it more fun, but I still have no interest in playing anything other than my character.
>Once you’ve actually completed the new single player content and are sitting on top of the galactic throne
Again, because story REALLY matters, which is why people will just have to pretend that not every single player in the game isn't also sitting on the throne as well.
>It’s also the first time that you’re going to have to pick a permanent side.
Still really dislike that they're replacing the Imperial vs. Republic storyline with this dark vs. light one, since the new direction isn't getting a storyline to go with it. It would be an interesting road to go down, but this seems like a gameplay/design decision that's yet again entirely divorced from the story that's supposed to be such a pillar of the game.
>Part of Galactic Command is the new multiplayer Uprising missions.
Only interesting bit of this expansion to me. SWTOR has needed new group content in a MAJOR way for a long time, and especially something like this. Hoping it's as good as it sounds so far, because it may be the expansions only saving grace.
Zakuul is probably the least interesting, least Star Wars-y direction they could have gone. And between not being terribly interested in the story direction and not wanting to maintain a subscription in order to be able to progress my characters by using the Command system (since it's locked out for preferred players) I'm giving this expansion a solid pass : /
I haven't played this game.
Not my cup of tea in the attempts I've made.
But you seem way too bitter. Overly bitter, even.
For a game I don't support, I can appreciate the support the developers are giving it.
Story has always been a big factor in the reviews I've read for this game and it seems they're continuing it.
I see no complaints there.
It may not be what YOU want. But other people play the game as well.
Once again, this game isn't my cup of tea....or beer..... Or whiskey.
But I'll appreciate their constant updates to it.
Many games I've loved and lost had lack of
support from the devs.
This one doesn't seem to lose that, which I can appreciate
Yeah he is bitter, just look at the time stamp on his post vs the OP. Both are 11:18 no chance he read the article and typed all of that stuff in under a minute. He just copy/pasted his post from the SWTOR forums, which are known to be a cesspool that nobody who plays the game goes to.
They pretty much abandoned group content and the MMO bits to focus on single-player story, which is fine, don't get me wrong. If they want to focus on what is good in SW and create a different thing in the MMO market, go for it. Problem is you are sacrificing everything that USUALLY makes a MMO, well, a MMO.
Still, the main issue is that even the story isn't that good. There are far, far better RPGs out there, with lots of more content and stuff to do for less money. Hell, there is better storytelling even in the current MMO market. Not only that, all this "your choices matter" is a complete lie. Anyone that read this crap last expansion and played it knows it's completely false. The story is streamlined and choices don't matter at all. I hardly believe KOTET will be any different.
I have loved the game as @Holst86 said very much as a single player experience but what I find disturbing now is "what's next"? I mean -- Ruler of the Galaxy -- Permanent Member of (for me anyway) the Dark Side -- and....Game Over?
Short of a fall from grace or a tragic loss on a mission that sends us off to a new galaxy (Hello, Mass Effect: Andromeda!), where does a player character go?
It's much the same feeling I get from WoW these days -- we're essentially the leader of Alliance & Horde forces...how much further can the story go before there's nowhere left to go and nothing left to conquer.
I miss the old days of just being a "random hero" in my MMOs.
Swtor would make a amazing single player game. Most people only play it for the story and side missions now anyways. Its really the best part of the game and its free. I don't know anyone that sub. to this game anymore. And this latest update sounds really lame to everyone i know that still plays.
So I'm curious how swtor is still in the top five of western mmos if according to you everyone plays for free and nobody subs? Maybe those "you know" that still play are lying to you.
That link shows it as being part of top 5 grossing Pay to Play MMO's. It doesn't say anything about population. It could just as easily be a few hundred cash shop whales keeping it there.
Hell it's got Tera at number 5. Which is actually impressive considering unlike SWTOR. They don't hold most of the content hostage unless you pony up a subscription. I can't even think of a single time I've had to pay for a Tera expansion.
In War - Victory. In Peace - Vigilance. In Death - Sacrifice.

HAHA most of their content??? You can play the ENTIRE BASE GAME FOR FREE!!!! Yes Swtor does not cater to the entitled kids who think they should get expansions for free you can stay over at Tera.
What a weak attempt to bash the game. Yep a few hundred cash shop whales are keeping Swtor running lol. Never mind all the people who completed KOTFE never mind all the guilds who are still putting up millions of points each week in conquest, yep its all whales just buying $100 MILLION+ a year in cartel packs...if you are going to be ignorant about a video game you are better to just not comment on it.
I had high hopes for this game and stuck it out for a long time.... but now I can hardly find reason
to play anymore. I think the old wow structure bores me now

I agree there's a quiet dignity to being the unsung hero, but honestly we're leaders in name only in WoW - pawns even. Everything we do is at the behest of someone else. We end up doing all the dirty work.

Me too.
What happened to you and your party being greater than the sum of their parts?
These days, your party is lesser than the sum. It's so backwards. If I want a game world tailored directly to my character and his or her choices alone, I can play a CRPG or other singleplayer RPG such as ME or the Witcher series. Currently, I'm doing just that: replaying the ME series in preparation for Andromeda.
I'm not currently playing any MMORPG because it feels so cheap a pill to swallow from developers that you are the "one true hero of the realm/world/galaxy/what have you, so long as you ignore all the OTHER one true heroes..."
I have a one true hero of the realm. His name is Commander Jessup Shephard of the HMS Normandy and he is the war hero of a dicey military operation during the Blitz. He also repeatedly thwarted Reaper incursions into the known galaxy. Oh, and if he hadn't, there isn't another 10 players standing right next to me who have.
When I play an MMORPG, I want to be a part of the army. A Han Solo, maybe, in the way that I stand out for my contributions but not in a "only true hope" kind of way. Not everyone gets to be Luke, and being Han or Chewy would be a lot more fun, anyways.
What a great Darkside / mature reasoning just leave some to die for fun. How about Lightside you gain an allie, Darkside you steal his greater artifact and continues that as your allie.
It has been a painfull road to watch this unimagination in SWToR when they have been trying to motivate the Darkside action. Kill and torture just because you serve the Darkside? It's just not good enough...
