Combat in Darkfall: New Dawn?

Hey folks,

I see this game is described as a sandbox MMOFPS.  Is the combat super fast-paced and twitchy?  Does it require tons of attacking while moving?  Do headshots own all?  It sounds kind of interesting, but I'm not sure how far I could get in it as an old man with slow reflexes!

Thanks.

I feel you bud, its too twitchy for me, I tried it and there is constant moving strafing and weapon switching going on, its tough for us older guys IMO

You can try for free though

No headshots that I recall... But back attacks do additional damage. It's not "super" fast, moderate kind of, and strategic, particularly in groups as there is friendly fire and enemy healing. It may be up your alley but it may not. I'd say try it, couldn't hurt. Before it shut down, we had a couple old timers in our clan on Unholy Wars, 63 and 79 if I recall correctly. They did quite well. Combat was faster in Unholy Wars.

It's the same as RoA but contextually different in a lot of ways, such as racial warfare (removed from RoA and replaced with a faction system). And New Dawn has local banking, not global. If you put stuff in a bank, it's in that bank, not others. I guess the simple way of putting it is New Dawn is looking for a realistic approach, RoA is looking for a gameplay approach. Overall it can be a location choice as well, New Dawn: EU, Rise of Agon: NA. I'll add that RoA has adjusted and continues to adjust player hitboxes and range, New Dawn is yet to do this from what I've read. There will be racial inbalance in the current version.

Not that I'm trying to persuade you. But something to look into before spending the cash if you do like it.
The current current trial until the 29th is limited as well on New Dawn, you cannot gather other than skinning (no mining, no logging, no fishing, no digging) as a non-paying participant. and skills are capped.

no headshots.  combat is quite fast paced FPS combat.   mix an FPS with MMO ability hotbars and you have DF:ND's combat.  plus there are a lot of special movement spells you don't see in an FPS.  like columns that levitate you, spells that launch you straight up, or at the angle you are running in.  blinding spells.  AoE DOTs.   instant spells that are like a limited range rail gun.  so kind of like Quake, with a lot of melee action (including shielding/parrying) & a number of the kind of spells you'd find in games like EverQuest.

The most important factor in my opinion is their insistence on local banking and removal of fast travel. They really are creating good foundations for a thriving economy.

If you play with a organized clan your individual skill isnt the only factor. There is always solo heroes but thats maybe 10 % and others have to rely on numbers if need be :=)
There is need for a lot of different jobs in lets say a siege or a boat fight, so you can have a lot of impact even if 1:1 is not your strong suit.

There is Magic schools with splash damage, and Area Effects, those will hit even if you dont have a direct hit. With the introduction of titles in one of next patches that will all get shaken up, not sure how that will play out.
On the other hand PVP is an important part of the game but not the only thing, can also be crafter, trader, lead a clan or do whatever you want.
