Should have just been a single player game instead..

I like it.. but there's no need for it to be an MMO.
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

Ppl are not happy about the new grind.

If that is their mmo decision then it makes you wonder about their philosophy on content, and how they view end game.

If end game is suppose to be accessible with little grind, then there should be more end game content. Vice a versa for the opposite situation.

It kind of fits their whole style so far with events such as DvsL alighnment and being a grind and nothing intgreal to a dynamic system.

Same with bounty hunting being a grind

The achievement system, albeit somewhat standard but they added it after the release of their game

they need more end game content and less grind. I hope they can manage to do that, or it might hurt the subs unless im completely wrong and ppl just love grinds and cash shops and being able to roam around in their fluff.

I mean there has to be some kind of statistic that supports their decision, which is probably from the amount money spent on their cash shop and the play style of people doing grinds before actual challenging content. Which is not what I enjoy, so Ill wait until they add what I like, which seems to only be story, and good bye pvp since I wont do that long grind.

Let me take a wild guess that subscription numbers are, at the point of EEA closing the game.... They do this too, all the time, anyone remember battleforge ? I put a few bucks into that thing and "o sorry we are closing it down , you get nothing back for your time and money". F EA to H. Then after this last round of trying SWTOR , F them. You can't get me into your van with your candy ! This is my opinion.

I would think the exact opposite.

With the new Star Wars movies coming out I bet they have a whole new set of players, including returning players like me, excited for star wars content.

Heck, even I just downloaded the game again and if a game has a sub I usually end up paying it if I decided to play it for a while.

Beat the new story line in a couple hours. Since there is zero side quests or anything else to do for fun with the new dlc. Story was ok, very very happy about the ending.

Also the grind was bearable because you could do pvp, instances, uprisings, or just grind gold mobs and get decent cxp.

Today they nerfed the shit out of cxp from mobs. So that option is gone. Fucking bioware.

Am I the only one who remembers  "Rogue One Tv Series" .. not a movie.. yet they changed it to a movie .....

Also people will not be joining an mmorpg when the movies come out, they will be playing single player star wars action rpgs / fps on their consoles.

Well, apparently people have as EA's 2nd quarter financial reports mention Star Wars the Old republic as one of the major driving forces in their profits.

Considering one of many new Star Wars movies has already launched it's very plausible to think that continuing Star Wars movies will make players curious about the game if they haven't already tried it.

And considering that people already call the game a "single player game" it's not a stretch to think that it will be a contender for players to have a "single player Star Wars experience".

In any case I don't think the game is going away any time soon. The Star Wars movies are essentially free advertising.

every thought the same thing for the lotr movies and hobbit movies, the thing is this, most people don't run out searching for mmos, they will in 80% of the time play wjat the already have or buy games for they are already have which is a console. Did lotro get a boost, maybe a 5% retention. When comes down to it, do you thin EA will put their stwor out or

I'm not talking about "what I think" as far as whether or not Star Wars the old Republic will get more players and be more financially successful. Star Was the old republic has gotten a boost in traffic according to the 2nd quarter financial reports. Whereas, Lord of the Rings did not.

What? EA had a 1 million dollar drop in subscriptions, which was blamed primarily on SWTOR.

Wow this is the desperation the haters have these days...5 years of crying about swtor failing and closing.  At least there are very few left miserable desperate fools still claiming swtor is going to close year after year...it must be hard for these people to accomplish anything in life.

Well, I was going off of this from their financial report:

    For
    fiscal year 2016
, service and other revenue was
    $1,899 million
    , primarily driven by
    FIFA Ultimate Team
    and
    Star Wars: The Old Republic.

I should add, looking over the document, that you are correct there was a decrease in revenue. But a decrease in revenue in one quarter is not going to "make a game go away" which is my point. Star Was the Old Republic isn't going away yet.

Every time I see a topic on this game I shed a few tears. Why oh why couldn't they just COPY SWG instead of copying WoW and going for their 4th pillar nonsense: STORY. Story emphasis in an MMO, really ????
To top things off they had to make their own garbage engine that can't even run smoothly on modern quad core CPUs....
Now we'll never get a proper Star Wars MMO !!! QQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQ

Actually come to think of it, if anyone's ballsy enough to make a 3rd SW MMO, it's Disney.

I can't speak to the exact number of subs but I have seen a lot of people riding around on the new mounts and accessing things required for a sub. On my server I've been on the 2nd tier of some worlds due to tier one being maxed. Last night I was on Tier 2 on one of the new expansion worlds and it was close to max on that tier. I have a few different characters in different guilds and the activity in them has doubled and tripled from a few months ago. The forums also seem to be pretty active with many new posts, some people happy, some not, usual stuff. If I'm not mistaken, Forbes or some other magazine reported subs spiked last year due to the movies success and showed some numbers. Lastly SWTOR placed in the top 5 on top grossing mmo games list on Superdata Research's report for 2016.

Which is quite sad actually. Because nothing that BW do seem to have ANY negative impact on revenue. Which means they could literally shit all over their fanbase and call them losers and people would still join, sub and buy lotto rng hypercrates. Because...baaa! I think that's the sound.

    fml smh
That's pretty much what they have done if you actually want an MMO experience but unfortunately enough people are still throwing money at them.

The rng boxes will not give out end game gear until around level 180 which is the lowest tier 3.

    • Tier 1: Command Rank 1-89. Rating 230
    • Tier 2: Command Rank 90 – 179. Rating 234/236
    • Tier 3: Command Rank 180-300. Rating 240/242.
They have basically added a rng grind fest to getting loot from the crates.  The best way right now to get cxp is doing story mode uprising but that will get boring fast if you are just grinding away.  Can get around 4k in an hour doing that.

The new way of gearing is the worst ive seen in an MMO, especially one that has so many people playing many alts, they expect people to grind like this on every alt? Also theres basically no new content at all, Uprisings are the cheapest possible way for them to add something and call it new content.

I love the Star Wars franchise, but EA/Bioware hasnt exactly done anything positive for it with SWTOR these last years.

I can say from my own experience that this game is worth the 1 month sub for the awesome story and all other features but will it extend over that period? I don't know. They'd have to have a juicy patch January for that to happen.

I am only happy to see a more educated player base here.
Most realize it is nothing more than a single player game, what i have been saying about most of the MMO's.Devs are only using login screens to allow more ways to gather ongoing profits from what should essentially be a one time cost.

I know gamer's have at this point segregated the genre into two types,Themepark and Sandbox,i don't like to go that route,i want a game if called an MMO to feel like one.SWTOR has never done hat for me,well it did for about a week when it was new because like everyone i was excited for a SW's game. However it soon became apparent hpow shallow the design was and how very much it was nothign more than a Themepark that has every player moving through at the exact same junctures, exact same npc's"good/evil" sides of course.

A MMO world should feel like YOUR game and not some connect the dots, which people are calling Themepark. You can have a Themepark but that does not mean it needs to be a connect the dots game.Sometimes we like to go on several rides but ignore others, this game pretty much forces you how to play and that for a MMO is not good game design.

Tons and tons of other very poor design ideas, like everything was tiers of 3,it begins to look real fake and every npc moves together like on a chain instead of thinking individually,it just looks more so like computer code than a living world. This is all because the team was too lazy to individualize everything from YOUR experience to the npc's to the systems, just real lazy effort and why it felt lie they simply cashed in on the brand name.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

On December 20th 2016 SWTOR will have been out for 5 YEARS.  5 YEARS in its still one of the most popular, revenue generating, content updating western MMO.   Its absolutely hilarious coming to sites like this and you still have people like this Dren character  or Mr. Wizard still crying about topics people tried to push back in 2011!!  The best part is those still left like these two only show their desperation and their inability to grow up and move on.

The fact is by every piece of data available to us it shows what a successful mmorpg is SWTOR and continues to be.  Now of course the desperate fools who are still on their desperate crusade to take down swtor will cry and spin the facts but that only makes them look like complete idiots, and boy is it fun every time SWTOR release content or is in the news watching those like Dren and Wizard look like desperate idiots.

Keep it up little buddies, there are not many like you two left on the internet.  Most who believed your crusade 5 YEARS ago did what most mentally stable, mature adults do, they MOVED ON FROM A VIDEO GAME THEY DONT LIKE.  Clearly this site has a few who want to keep their desperate attempt to see SWTOR close going.  They just hope maybe in another 5 years ago if the stress of seeing SWTOR continue on doesnt kill them they can tell all of us I told you so...pretty sad but thats the truth right now with the very few remaining SWTOR hater crusaders like Dren and Wizard.
