How often do you get ripped off in Ebay?

I've purchased a few things from ebay for computers and well it hasn't been a good ride for me.
Are you onto something or just on something?

So far I've gotten a bluescreen laptop, Burned out graphics card,  Fake windows version, fake diamond ring

I successfully got some games, a laptop that worked right, a wifi card,  real diamond ring.

The only thing I didn't eat the money on was the fake diamond ring because my bank took the money back for internet fraud.

Uhm check their purchase history before buying?

I've only purchased a couple of DvDs over a period of about 10 years.  No problems with it.  I don't think that I would trust it for hardware or software, though.

I can honestly say that I've never been ripped off on ebay.

The only time I came close to being ripped off was when I tried to buy a SWG account from someone right after the game came out. Neither one of us knew that you could not do so without the original user having to give up their whole SOE account. So I contacted them and he refunded the money no problem.

I have bought car motors and parts totaling thousands of dollars with zero issues. Many thousands spent on a wide range of other products with zero issues. As @Bloodaxes said, you really have to look at buyers feedback on the seller.

I've really only use eBay to buy new products, or refurbished by a saller with good feedback ratings.

This includes several laptop batteries, headset and mouse, refubished Windows Tablet/keyboard, refurbished Logitech keyboard for IPAD Air2 and numerous annual award medallions from several vendors the past 4 years.

I do recall back in the early Pokemon craze buying some rarer cards from someone who didnt deliver or respond to emails.

After 2 months I created a map which I added a heavy line on the roads from the airport to their home address and a short note stating I would be in town on business "soon"

I received the missing cards about 2 weeks after mailing the letter

What? I was just implying that I would be "happy" to stop by and pick them up, saving them the trouble of mailing. ;)

I don't understand how people can get ripped off on ebay these days.

You buy something and it doesn't work or is fake or not the item you ordered -- first you contact the seller.  If they don't do exactly what you want, you file a SNAD and ebay forces them to take your return, pay for the return shipping as well, and you put a black mark on the seller.

Technically everything essentially comes with a 30 day warranty.

The only time I got ripped off was when there was an error on EBay and I got charged for the same item 3 times. They refunded me.

Never happened to me. I order on ebay alot and some sellers try to pull a stunt on me now and then, but PayPal is always quick refunding the money.

I've only ever purchased a few things on e-bay, no problems. Now, they weren't computer/software related items.

As a seller I've gotten ripped off a lot. I don't sell on ebay anymore because of it, they never take your side as a seller and it is complete bullshit.
Yes, i don't sell for bigger amounts via PayPal and the smaller things only with "friends and family".
Just recently some guy tried to pull a PayPal fraud scheme on me when i had my bike on sale.

Craigslist is much better.  That way you can look the person in the eye and know where they live if there is a problem.

I stay away from Ebay, the shipping charges are a total ripoff and you can't choose your own vender.

Yes, it was on craigslist. This certain Paypal fraud scheme works with somebody coming to pick up the wares at your place.

I've never had any issue's with ebay (touch wood), but I don't use it that much.  Most of the time if I'm interested in a second hand item it always nearly goes for it's (brand new) retail price.  In the end I'll buy it new from a trusted retailer and get the warranty.
